Need Help: 5.3 Ported Head Flow #'s.... what do they look like midlift vs. ls6??
Ported vs ported....... what is the difference mid lift...
I expect .600 to be 290 w/ 5.3 vs 300-310 on most LS6's.
I searched and searched..... haven't found what I am looking for.
stock 241's do 227 or so
stock 243's do 240 or so
stock 5.3's do 226 or so
ported ls6's are in the 300's
ported 5.3's are in the 290's
what about mid lift on the ported 5.3's vs the ls6's??

I can't speak for everyone but the Precision Race Components 5.3l heads flow pretty similar to the LS6 heads in mid lift flow, but with a much smaller runner! The all new stage 2.5 5.3l heads will ship with 220ish cc chambers & flow 208 .300 256 .400 290ish .500 & over 312 .600! That cylinder head has a ton of potential, especially for the guys with enough p/v to use the 2.02 or 2.04" valve option! We'll post flow info on the 5.3l stage 2.5s very soon & I think you guys will be very impressed!

You're smart to be concerned with mid-lift flow. It's the key to making big power when running a factory style intake manifold (which tends to lop off flow above 270 cfm). Big flow in the .300-.400" range will make big power.

How about same porter, same style valves(stock 2.00), ported 5.3s with stock 2.00 vs. ported 243s with stock 2.00:
5.3s w/ 217cc runner

My 5.3s dont do as well up at .600(272) as the 243s do though(300)

ok.... last question.... does a small cam such as mine (226/226) really benifit from the extra cfm (310 vs 285/290) as much as a larger cam compared to a weaker preforming ported head??
would the ported 5.3's and my cam compliment each other.... and would this also be a good setup for a 125 wet shot??

I told you how I felt Mike...A good porter can get you what you want but working within a budget is hard to optimize power for dollar. Now the new TSp 5.3L program looks promising but I wouldnt dare spend that kind of money when the heads wont work well on a big bore motor down the road.

my point exactly.... most 346 heads that may work decent with big cubes are the 225AFR style heads or others with more cc's...those cost some dime..... my opinion is that if ya plan to go bigger later.... spend less sooner.... since ya cant just pull em and put em on a 402ci motor.
you atleast agree with this right?? paying less than 7bills for 30/40 is a decent $/hp ratio imho.
also this is based on advise from others that a ported 5.3 is better than an out of box 243 casting....correct me if I/them are wrong?

$385 for a bare set is CHEAP! and leaving them stock for now with the sodium filled valves would be great for what you want to do right now. Later when the motor is in the plans then you can have them ported and have you a great setup for a reasonable budget.

this is what I was looking for.... I dont care about .600 numbers.... the .550's are all I need to worry about. cam is around .570 or so lift. Nice to see a set of 5.3's out flow 243's down low. No plans here to use stock valve sizes though
