Default stock rods are typically good for XXX hp?

When do these start to give out, and under what conditions are they more likely to break? NO2? Boost? RPM?

I'm only about 100% sure he's talking about connecting rods.

I thought the problem was with revving past a certain point and that the connecting bolts were the problem. Of course, you can destroy everything with too much power too.

Man, it was only 4 hours from the beginning of your post

Stock rods are good to 500-550ish rwhp usually, but YMMV. You should have no problems with them on a H/C setup. Dom was also right in that the rod bolts are the weak part when revving high. Stock rod bolts are typically good to 6500-6800 safely, depending on the year (01+ were the better bolts). I put new rod bearings in and ARP bolts, and I have no worries at all spinning my car to 6600. Its seen 7k a few times and hasn't cried yet.

I hope mine doesn't come apart. I spin it to 6800-6900 on motor and about 6500 on the kit?

The 01+ cars did get the better LS6 rod bolts which were good a bit above 6800. Most people recommend if you're revving much higher than that to get aftermarket bolts.

The nitrous shouldn't matter much as rod bolts are only stressed by RPM, not power levels

It's more rpm based than whp.

I'd feel more comfortable on boosted stock rods with 600whp at 6000rpm than h/c 450whp at 7200 rpms

if a heads cam ls1 is making 450rwhp @ 7200 rpms, something is definately wrong to begin with....

the stock rods themselves have been taken to 1000+ hp. usually the fasteners come loose or something else breaks...the rods themselves RARELY fail. i honestly don't recall a situation other than the s13 ls1 pinks guys.

you know i did have a rod bend in my car but i had other problems with it too though. those rods saw 7k rpm daily and not one of the end caps let lose. i'd do rod bolts for extra security and probably leave it as is. not sure how i bent my rod because the piston wasnt tapped and i'm almost positive it didnt hydolock. the only thing i could think of was when i was testing my nitrous kit out and had the nos disconected.dumb move on my part.

so getting the motor refreshed with arp bolts, new bearings/rings, and forged pistons, would you guys feel comfortable with a heads/cam top end hitting a 150-200 shot and being spun to 6800?

I am pretty he sure he meant if the car was making 450rwhp and he revved it to 7200 he would not be comfortable. He was not saying it made 450rwhp at 7200.

YES.

should my lq4 build go smoothly, we'll see what the rods will take...i'm confident that an 11:1 lq4 with l92 heads, forged pistons, and MASSIVE cam on a progressive 300 shot won't break them. something will break, i'm just not sure what exactly..
