Default Heads/Cam or Just Cam?

I am looking for about 430whp and 400wtq in this bad boy. I am strongly considering a good set of heads and a mid sized cam to reach this mark to keep the cars manners real tame.

I kinda thought that going this way would relieve some of strain on revving out real high to make power, surging, and just... drivability. Keep in mind I want to keep redline around 6k to help insure the motors life.

Am I just being silly here? I money really isn't a huge issue since I will be saving for it anyway and want LS6 heads anyway. I know Cam only LS1s have made those numbers... and have kept their manners pretty mild. But I guess i'm just being a jackass and overthinking things. What you guys think?

I think if you want 400 rwtq you are gonna need heads and cam if you want to keep it tame. People with the trak/torquer v3 have made 430rwhp/390 cam only i believe.

G5X3 or MS3 and you should see 400 rwhp, also gonna need an underdrive pulley, ported tb, ls6 intake, lt headers, ory, catback or your choice to hit those numbers. You might be able to hit 430 rwhp cam only with every bolt on, fast 90/90, true duals, and say trex or bigger, but it wouldlnt be that great on the street. For 430 rwhp Id say maybe a torquer v3 and some prc ls6 heads should do it with all the bolt ons.

Well... I will sacrifice 10wtq. The ultimate goal is a 120mph trap in a M6.

The original owner had it done. I worked my EFI Live magic and cleaned up the rough spots. It drives awesome. No worries taking it to work or on a trip if the weather's good.

I like the added fun of stock ported heads on a larger cam grind. 420 here.

i made 436 rwhp/402 rwtw with a set of tea 1.5 5.3 heads with a 228r cam.mine peaked around 6200 so with a bigger cam like in the 23x range it probably won't peak untill 6400-6500.still have the heads if you are needing some .

Turning the motor to 6k with a cam isn't going to show its full potential. If thats what you are looking to do I would suggest the TR 224 cam. Any bigger cam is going to want to peak higher and you are not going to be in the cams power band. My car on the motor don't start pulling real real hard until about 4000k.

That's why I was thinking boltons and maybe a 100 shot of nitrous or something... Keeping it kind of small. I dunno... a cammed LS1 sounds just plain angry.

I could always go custom grind. And have a cam special ground for me that'll make it's peak hp around 6000-6200 so i'm shifting right at peak. Which is obviously the wrong way to go but oh well... haha

120mph traps from heads/cam seems like the norm with these cars. So that's why i'm shooting for.

A custom one with an intake LSK lobe and an exhaust XE-R will give you the best of the two worlds according to the last informations here.

Patrick G helped me on building this one and his comments after the read of the cam card was:
"You will make some outstanding power with it!"

Here it is:

Don't have any numbers there man! haha

So basically... umm... would it be stupid to get a good set of heads with a mediocre cam for my goals? Have people gone that route before? I'm sure people have... but everyone here just seems to be giving info about their car with their setups... not numbers, goals, etc...

I am looking for 120 traps on a tame daily driver. I figured a good set of heads with a decent cam would a lot easier then going stock heads and big cam.
