Rebuild ls1 or new ls2
I'm somewhat new to this forum so I apologize if this isn't the right section to post this...
I have a daily driver 2000 Z28 A4 with about 143k miles. I plan on keeping the car, but was wondering if it would be more cost effective to rebuild the old ls1 to include head/cam package or purchase a new ls2. I know there are different h/c packages for the ls1, but on average which would make more power ls1 with h/c package or new ls2? Thanks for your input...

i would go with the rebuild, then beef to how you want it... unless you are going to run nitrous, just get new bearing and rings and gaskets. Then put all of you old internaLS IN THERE and get you some TSP stage 3 heads with a magic stick 4 and new lifters. And then you will be pretty happy and have a respectable street car!

If youre talking about keeping the LS2 stock, then yes a H+C ls1 will murder it. Now if you put that same H+C package on the LS2, its gains the edge. Now if you have a shortblock built for you, like a 402, youl destroy the other options. H+C LS1 rebuilt is your cheapest option by far.

HPE does all my work, they do great work and not that $$$, chuck is quite the the tuner and does magic with LSX...
i say H/C LS1 for the win, ls2 is just a ls1 with a bit more bite, so why not add 80RWHp for less?

I know someone selling a 436ci (LS6 block) super-stroker pretty soon that makes 500 RWHP and 503 RWTQ, when fresh anyway. All it needs is a re-hone ($150) and re-ring it ($???) and new gaskets ($200 maybe), + labor for someone to do it if you can't do it yourself, than put it back together and enjoy the ride. I've got the best builder to do the work in Lauderdale too. Cola crank, Manley rods, Ross pistons. Newly rebuilt stage III LS1 heads 5 months ago with all new Crane double springs and parts. 1 7/8" Grotyohann LT's too. Basically selling the entire engine from intake to oil pan. Hell, get you some LS7 heads, LS7 intake and TB and make an easy 600 RWHP.
I'm thinking $5,000 maybe.
