what cam for a nitrous 408?
Well I am starting to look around at what cam should go in the 408 im building. I was lookign at the thunder racing 224/227 .563/.569 114lsa but am unsure if this is large enough for the motor. I have heard some people talk about a cam being too small or too large for a 408. I barely speak cam language so would appreciate some help! I will be driving the truck daily and drivability will be an issue. Tranny is an auto as well. As for emmissions, I am fairly certain if need be I can pass one way or another, but this beign texas, I dont think it will be too hard either way. I will likely only be spraying about 150 shot, maybe sometimes a 200, and compression will be around 10-10.5:1 in the end.
Thanks a lot guys,
Lurius

that cam will be way to small for your application. I'm not sure how the Texas Giant is for streetability, but it's the only off the shelf stroker cam that I know of, I'd have my engine builder spec me a custom cam to fit the intake, heads, and compression that I was going to end up with. Good luck with your build.

230's is still way small. Ive got a Comp 244/248 .612/.615 113lsa and its still a little small, but I like it. Made good numbers on the bottle also.. There are 3-4 other people on here running the same cam also making good numbers

in that sweat hog of a truck it will take some decent bottom end tq to get it moving off the line off the bottle so i'd say something like a 236/242 or so would be a decent performer n/a and on the bottle.how often are you going to be driving it on the street and how much are you going to be racing it ?

When yall are saying undercamed, do you mean it wont be makign nearly its full potential, or that it would not run well with such a small cam? Im alright with losing a little performance since it is a DD, but I want it first and foremost to run good and be a reliable engine that I can depend on to get me to work and school. I figure even losing some of its full potential it will still make decent power all things considered.
Thanks a bunch for the input guys, its really helping!

something in the 22x range in a 408 will be out of breath pretty early in the rpm range and your tq will not be much higher than a slightly bigger cam so your useable power will be less with that small of a cam.

I like the sound of that GTO in the vid you linked. Especially that 6.7L badge! I had been thinking of the same thign to go on the tailgate. Anyone know where he got it?
Would yall reccomend getting a custom grind cam? I was thinking of just telling them what im building, what I need and seeing what they come up with.
