Hi, I'm new to the boards. I need to know the specs for the new LS1's camshaft? My husband and I, each have our own 2002 Z's, and he's bugging me to find out. Thanks, Jody

Hey Jody, welcome. I think I might have the specs at work but I'm pretty sure you can do a search on LS1.com and find the info. If I remember correctly, I think it is the same cam as the 6.0L trucks.

Thanks ShooterSS, I registerd over there, and looked around a bit. I'll have to have Gary go over and check out that site. This is a good board that they got here. Jody

Thanks Edge Hawk. I'll pass the info along to Gary. He's going to go nuts with this MB when he gets home. This may be just the thing to get him to want to learn how to use a mouse. LOL Jody

Yeah the actually downgraded the cam specs since we don't have the EGR, but that 116 LSA is nice, it gives us a pretty wide power band....
however our top end power is suffering from that low int. & ext duration.

Something that a person BLKOUT sent me last feb.
O.K. yes the cam has been changed in your 2001 car. It is from the 6.0
truck. The specs are from what I've heard: 198/197 duration , 478 lift,
115 LSA

Gary still doesn't believe that they would put the same cam on a '02Z, that they are using on a truck. I haven't gotten any response on the OTHER board either. You guys are great. It it a puzzle. These new 2002's really haul ***. We have no complaints!. Jody

The newer cars definitely have smaller cams. The change was especially noticable in the vettes. My buddy had a 98..It had a 113 LSA. I could tell from day one that it idled choppier than my T/A. Damn did that car ever pull hard to the redline due to the longer duration. His 98 got replaced by an 01 and it definitely lost some hp at 5-6k and the car definitely idles more smoothly.

Good point. That's probably what they meant to say. Now if we can clean up the rest of that document where they say the '01's got PUP cats we'd really be getting somewhere.

BLUZBUNNY,
Here is a quote from a long list of changes made in 2001 that also apply to 2002's.
LQ4 CAMSHAFT
Powertrain engineers found an elegant, cost-effective answer when the platform team asked for a five-horsepower increase in the 2001 LS1: They borrowed a billet-steel camshaft from the LQ4 Vortec 6000 truck engine. The new cam has more advance and different timing, delivering more torque lower in the rev range. Coupled with an improved air cleaner developed for the LS6 V8, the new cam increase horsepower by five in the Firebird.

I've seen that quote so many times, but it's suspicious. There is/was no new "air cleaner" installed on '01+ LS1 F-bodies so I'm not sure I can trust that it's the 6 liter truck engine cam and not the 5.3.
