Difference between 2.000" and 2.100" rod journals/crank pin?
I'm going with the new 4" Callies Dragonslayer crank and a set of Callies Compstar connecting rods, and the Dragonslayer is offered with 2.00" or 2.100" rod journals. The 2.100" seems to be the most common/standard size and what you see advertised on most/all sponsors websites. What's the difference between the 2 besides the obvious, size? Trying to decide between the 2 so I can get my motor build rollin'. I assume that if I choose 2.000" on the crank journals, that I need to order a set of connecting rods with a 2.000" crank pin, correct? Thanks.

I think Erik summed it up for you in the other thread. Before you go buying 2" journal cranks, you need to see what connecting rods are offered in 2". Finding one that is LSX specific and not over priced could be fun. If compstar makes a 2" journal rod, that'd be nice, but I haven't seen one. I believe TSP used to sell the refurb'd NASCAR rods that had a 2" journal. I think they were Carillio's or something of that nature. Nice high end rod for a good price.

I'm pretty sure that's the one I need. The other 6.125" rods that don't mention the crank pin size I assume is the standard size of 2.100". But the other one specifically states 2" which is awesome because I really wanted to use the Callies Compstars for the connecting rods.

I agree with what was said in the other thread, With the smaller rod journal you will get less rotating mass, decreased bearing speed which decreases oil temps and friction, and it should also give you more clearance for the longer stroke (i.e. rod bolt to cam, oil pan, and block clearance... though I do not know if this is an issue with the LSX motors or not). One thing not mentioned, however, is that in theory, the larger rod journal crank should be stronger and flex less; allthough I am sure in any of our applications the 2.0 journal would still be more than adequate. If you were going to build a max effort turbo motor or something like that you would most likely go with the larger journal I would think.

oh yes the small journal rod bearings.back in the day of the 327 sbc they came with i think 1.890 ,i think anyways,then switched over to the larger 2.100. the added benefit is of course less parasitic loss and alittle added hp but i would check with some builders to see what all is the consequences.after all,it didn't take the general long to change to the larger 2.100
