How many of you stock headed guys w/cam are...???
Running stock programming??
The only sort of "programming" I have is HPP3, thats only for the rev limiter and to turn the fans on earlier...
I have a comp cams cam
222/222 .563/.563 112lsa
50% of the time the SES light is on...I figure it is on because of the LSA...the other problem I get is the idle surge...only happens when I let the car sit for 10-15 mins after being fully warm..do you guys get this?? TB plate is drilled to the max...
And would custom programming make this all better??
Should I wait until I do heads to do this?
Thanks

you never got programming when you did the cam? I am not an expert on this cause I have not had the money to do stuff like this but I think you might need it. we'll see what the experts have to say.

I have a 6-speed so its not really a must...its mainly to make things run smooth...
Another ? I have is when the engine surges and drops in idle and oil pressure is it hard on the engine..??

Hotcam , yes I get that 15 min hot thing too.
It runs bad for a few minutes..
M6 throttle blade drilled to 15/64 and
a .022 shim on top of the idle stop screw..
the shim cleaned things up.
I get idle codes ( misfires ) and they go away.
got a cam ?? if you have not done this yet

I can live with the stock programming...I just don't feel like dolling out $450 for programming when I will be modding the car more soon...

I didn't think there was an advantage to any programming with an M6 and T1??? FLP told me that I wouldn't gain anything. I have this with the SLP LT's and no problems (SES) at all. I dynoed at 337 rwhp. Does that seem ok?
Additionally, I think Speed Ink will be offering custom tuning soon for a much more reasonable rate.

Last I checked, Izzo did custom tuning for about $50 less then Ed Wrights fee of $500.
Izoo charges $450.

Ed wright charges $450 plus shipping. Tom will have a guy that has the ls1edit program and will come to tom's shop for the pcm programming. the guy also has a dyno facility and can test tune your car on the dyno after the programming.

TR 224 cam here with HPP3 power tuning, fans, and gear change. Stock MAF and MAFT is at 0,0. TB is drilled also to raise idle speed.

I have a B1 and am running bone stock programming.
With the stock exhaust (manifolds, cats, pipe & muffler), the B1 felt good, and there were NO driveability, idle, or cold start issues. The thing had a little lope, but other than that, it ran perfectly. Never an SES light. Stock or ported MAF, both ran about the same.
I put on Grot longtubes, a 3" Y-pipe (!cats), and SLP 2OTL catback. Now the car is def-in-ite-ley faster , but I get all kinds of crazy things... On cold start, it hunts for the idle (up to 1500, down to 800, up to 1400, down to 900) for about 20 seconds. It occasionally stalls out if I don't give it enough gas. I have a couple of different MAF ends, and with the stock MAF (with screen) on there, I get some backfiring when cold and it runs very rich (stinky ). With the ported MAF, it runs a lot better. Of course the SES is lit because of !rear O2's, and that dang lower EGR tube cracked so I blocked it off at the header and on the intake.
The MAF tricks tell me that the car would definitely benefit from 'real' programming, and not just for the rev limiter. But like you guys, I'm waiting for LS1_Edit for '98s.
