IAC valve is hunting for idle. how do you fix??
I have just installed the hammer cam(btw: man this cam rocks, sounds awesome!!!!!)
How do you get this thing to idle?
I have drilled the TB and increased idle speed, and played with the MAFT until it idles good, but after about 2 minutes it seems like the pcm tries to compensate with the IAC valve and eventually kills the motor. I tried the search but came up empty handed. Thanks for any help.

Its the IAT, Intake Air Temp. John has custom tuning to help his out. If you cant fiddle with yours and get it to work you can always use a manual IAT control.

I think he means Idle Air Control (IAC) motor. Its actually a "stepper" motor/valve that controls bypass air for idle speed control. Yours is "hunting"' which causes idle surge/instability.
How is the Intake Air Temp Sensor goeing to have an effect on idle? confused...

I gave up in frustration trying to get mine to idle steady. Could have gone with custom tuning, but don't to spend the bucks. Opted for a cheaper solution. Installed a manual choke cable to control the IAC. Rock steady now.

I forget the exactly the "how to" part of it. But when I drilled my TB blade, I remember you were also suppose to reset the plunger on the IAC.
I "think" , i.e. don't quote me on it, You remove the IAC und push in the plunger on it, and replace it ( god it's been so long since I did this mod ). Anyways when you first crank the car up...it revs up high like 2.5-3k then finds it idle. It idled smooth ever since.
Maybe someone can post the exact "how to" method for doing it.

How much did you drill it out?
What is your current idle rpm?
After drilling the TB, and reseting the IAC I didn't have to do anything with my MAFT to change the idle. I did howere have to test several times when drilling. I started small and worked my way up. The first few times the idle was still a little low, and still surged somewhat.

i never work on car anymore so my memory is fading...
Seems to me you have "zero" the IAC.
There is a measurment......
For some reason 1 1/4 in. sticks out in my mind... you might want to stop by napa and open one of the chiltons or haynes manuals for a minute to get that measurement....(the correct)
the PITA part is you'll have to do it everytime you drill the hole in the TB......
Like i said don't quote me but give it a shot <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" /> <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" /> <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" />

Right now I am at 7/32
idle rpm is 900 -1100 by using the idle screw, any lower and it won't idle at all.
how do you reset the IAC, maybe that is my problem
