Mufflers - Magnaflow, Ultraflow, Flowmaster, Borla, Dynomax
I want to pull off my 4" Flowmaster muffler and try something else less droney and perhaps more free flow.
Magnaflow had a 4" at PRI, straight thru, little perforations inside...
I could also hit up Bassani for a custom muffler.

I am all for the ultraflow! Those have proved me performane over FM's on 3 of my cars! They are VERY quiet but with 4" and headers i don't know if that would still be true!

Yeah I'd try the Borla XR1, but first I'd dyno before and after with the Flowmaster before dropping 120 bucks or whatever a 4" XR1 is.
Do you think a straight out tip instead of a turndown would reduce drone?

I would like to see borla come out with the exact same system they have now but in 3 and a half inch stainless. Anything they could do to lighten up the exhaust would be ideal, and you could still run the block off plate to have a relativly quite car. Thats what i do with my 3 inch borla =)

PSJ,
I am not sure if Dynomax makes a Ultrflo in the 4 inch size but I have the three inch and it looks VERY well made and VERY high flowing
Part throttle driving isnt bad at all and WOT is awesome. Definitely quieter than the 4 inch Mufflex I had on the car before.
Cheers,
Chris

Chris Pippy, you went from 4" Mufflex to what you have now? How much quieter at idle and cruising? A lot or just moderate?
I don't think Ultraflow has a 4" but Magnaflow does.

I can only comment on the Magnaflow and Dynomax Ultra-flow Race Welded mufflers. I had the Magnaflow for about a year. It was OK, but I wanted something a bit quieter and more free flowing. Had the Dynomax 3" i.d. core for 2 months now and I like it better than the Magnaflow. Quieter and seems to have equal or better flow.

A straight through path through the muffler isn't necesarily everything, though... My Flowmasters I have right now have no straight through path (since Flowmasters are chambered mufflers), but don't really cause any restirction. I do pick up a little with the mufflers off, but I think it's mainly due to my crankcase evac. system pulling more crankcase vacuum with the mufflers gone...

I run custom MACS w a modded MAC offroad y, and a 12" dynmax bullet with a very short (2-3") mandrel bend turndown
Deeper and quieter than my Borla was when running no plate, at part throttle.
Like running an open y-pipe at WOT.
Heres a couple 2 meg vid clips where you can hear it at idle.

John, I talked to the guy at Spin Tech last year and I like there idea but I'm not to sure about the inside design of the muffler. One of the members in the CICC has a Mufflex 4" with a Spin Tech on his car and is sounds bad-*** and he said that it seems to flow very well. So i don't knwo I guess try it if I don't work sell it to someone and try something else.

Re: Mufflers - Magnaflow, Ultraflow, Flowmaster, Borla, Dynomax
here is what it looks like
Bought a 3" mandrel "U" from jegs...then hacksawed the tip the shape I wanted. Welded it to the muffler.
The dynomax slips snuggly onto my flowmaster collector. at the track..just unclamp..and tug the muffler off. Nice wieght savings and will get you by on the street.
NOTE: if your even slightly concerned with interior noise...this mod is not for you!

I would go with the MAGNAFLOW!!! I have it on my STOCK car. It sounds good at WOT and quiet at idle. I have the cutout for the drone.

John, just get the Spintech 4" muffler that Mufflex offers as an option with their 4" cat-back systems... I've always heard that the Spintech muffler was alot quieter and less "droning" than the Flowmaster...
Just something you may want to look into

George, Spintech was at PRI. They had a cutaway one on display and I talked to Dave for a while.
I don't like how it looks inside. There is no straight-thru path for the exhaust. It's basically got curl shaped baffles. They are called spin traps. Spintech used to be call Spintrap until they were sued by Supertrapp.
