Default HELP, My dealership says this is normal but it can't be!!!!!

I took my car in on Monday to have them check it out. It's been ticking and gotten louder recently and the ticking takes about 45-hour to go away, somtimes it doesn't. It's a real loud ticking that can be heard from pretty far away. I drove past a friend the other day and he said he could hear it as I went by. It sounds really bad and loud and I want it to go away because it could be somthing wrong.
The dealer called me back today and said it was ready. I asked him what they had to do and he said "nothing, it's normal. It's called piston slap. GM redesigned some inner parts of the engine and theres no skirts on" or somthin like that and then he said some other crap. I said bullshit, that's not normal at all, it's loud as hell. He said "I'm sorry sir but there's nothing I can do, it's normal".
I'm so pissed off right now, I know this can't be normal, it's really loud and never really goes away unless it's been run for a long time. What am I supposed to do, I can't have it ticking like that forever.

Just goin on what I read I would say it's a bent pushrod, broken valvespring, or header/manifold leak.

If it was a broken valvespring the car wouldn't run really....I went through that problem...I think you got some bent pushrods...does the sound get faster as you increase RPM's???

If not it could be a loose bolt....or a serious header/manifold leak or a vaccum problem with the manifold...

The sound you are hearing is not normal...

I can't hear it at higher rpms but taking off from a stop, I can hear it get faster throughout first gear. If the engines at low rpms, I can hear it. My car is an A4 so I'm not sure if it could be a bent pushrod but I suppose it's possible.

Have you ever pegged off of the rev-limiter...??

Or accidently dropped the shifter into a lower gear when it wasn't supposed to be there...

if not its probably a loose part somewhere in the drivetrain

yes I have hit the revlimiter, went from 1st to N, I missed D but got out of it fast. It was ticking before this but it seemed like a few days later, it got louder, mabye not.
Does anyone have a link to a site that shows what they did different to the 2002 ls1's from the 2001 ls1?? The dealer tried to tell me it's caused from what they did to the 2002 LS1's. Anyone know of a site that has it all, I know I've found sevral before but now that I need them, I can't find them

Piston slap is fairly normal with the ls1 but not loud enough to hear it from down the street and goes away when it gets warm. Does it sound like it's one tick or a bunch of ticks as you increase RPM? Odd that it goes away at higher RPM, wonder if it could be a flat lifter, not pumping up with oil at lower RPM...

If that dealer is going to jerk you around, try another one. And never go back to the one that jerked you around.

I had the exact same noise, but it ended up being a Header leak.

Yeah, I thought it sounded like a bad lifter too but they just kept telling me it was a "normal noise"
well, it looks like I'm gonna have to try Goodson Pontiac and see if they can help.

An tactic others have used when the "that's normal, sir" BS comes up is to politely ask them to take you out to the new cars and start up 1 or 2 others to see if they also make the same noise. If not, you've got some "ammo" to use to get yours fixed. If they all do it, then you can stop worrying.
