Default is it safe to mill stock LS1 heads to 0.030"?

is it safe to mill stock LS1 heads to 0.030" with stock valves using the texas speed 233/239 R2 cam and using stock GM head gasket? will there be piston to valve clearance problem?

You'd have to measure. But since you're talking about removing the heads, spend an extra few bucks and 20 minutes and flycut, so it won't matter. Question answered!

Contact Texas Speed, they will answer that for sure.
It also depends on the LSA/ICL

Ill bet it wont fit. They said they couldnt squeeze any more than a .015 mill on the smaller Tq2 cam.

thanks for the replies. looks like i'll be enough with 0.015" mill. now is the 0.015" mill safe with the same texas speed 233/239 R2 cam?

I would call texas speed and make sure. But even then i would still measure p/v clearance

Only way to be certain is to measure ptv clearance. It's not that difficult and well worth the time.

that wont fit with a .030 mill.....I bet it would be close with a .015 but measure to be sure...

ive tried to ask texas speed a similar question 5-6 times and have yet to get a reply so good luck. but thats going to prob be your best source dor the answer u want.

You can either use modeling clay, or the method I prefer, a checker spring and a dial indicator on the retainer.

Install a low tension checker spring, and tighten the rocker until it just barely takes out any play, but dosnt start to compress the cherker spring. Now rotate the motor from 10* btdc to 10* atdc stopping every 2 degrees to take a measurement. Simply push the valve down till it hits the piston and see how far it travels via the dial indicator.

what is flycutting the pistons? and how to do it accuartly?

now my car is with out heads i mean the heads are unbolted and the pistons are appearing can i do fly cut to the pistons that way while the engine is still in the car?

and also how safe is flycuting to the pistons? to the engine etc.....?
