Default Thunder 220 or 224 Cam for A4...

I want to get a cam for my '02 WS6 A4. I'm looking at the TR220 or the TR224 cam. Is there any real differences between these 2 cams? I really like what I have seen with the TR224 with 112lsa. The torque that thing makes is awesome!!! A big times hands up to Thunder Racing. Well since I have a A4 would the 114lsa TR224 or TR220 be a better choice? Does the 114lsa hurt the peaks that much? And does the 112lsa cam idle that much worse than the 114lsa cam? Please offer any opinions you have. Thanks.

02BlackWS6-- All I can tell you is my experience.
I had the Hammer cam on a 112, dyno'd 358hp and ran 12.4 @111.I allmost had a divorse over how bad this cam idled. Next was the TR220-114. Idles like stock and runs 12.0's @113. Either of the TR cams is an excelent choice, but I would strongly suggest getting one on a 114. Hope this helps

I have some setup data from others
http://ls1info.com/camstats/showdata.php

I would not go with the LSA 112 with an A4
if its going to be a daily driver..

If you planned on getting some programming
somewhere down the road that may be ok.
In the summer when you need the AC on all the
time its becomes a pain at redlights..

The TR 224 on a 112 works just fine with an auto transmission.Mine idles at 950rpm with a pronounced lope but it doesn't shake the car apart. It is my daily driver 365 days a year. The off throttle response is excellent.Driveability is as easy as with the stock cam.The cam is working fine without any custom pcm tuning. I did use a HPP3 to raise the shift points and to set the rev limiter up to 6600 rpm.If you have any questions about using this cam with an automatic, just call any of the crew at Thunder Racing or talk to Sean at Fastech. My last dyno number was 459 rwhp....the cam works!

Gold Z,

How did u raise the idle without tuning? Did u adjust the set screw on the TB? Do you get any codes with this cam? I'll probably get Cartek to tune my car on the dyno. But if i can raise the idle with the set screw in the mean time. Thanks for your input. I really like what I've seen with the Thunder 224 112lsa cam.

I have the TR 224 112 also. I'm not certain that you gain much over the 220 112. At 950 the idle is pretty decent, but that's pretty high. The 220 114 cam would acheive that same idle quality at 850 rpm and at 900 rpm will be as good as or better than stock.

The 114 doesn't hurt peak power, but may raise where it occurs by 200 - 300 rpm. The 114 is a safer choice from an emissions standpoint.

I raised the idle rpm by drilling the throttle plate. Very simple thing to do.
