TFS Heads, FAST and ECS Cam Install Pics
#81
Congrats on finishing your install, and the great write-up/pics. I just finished mine on the 5th of Dec. Doing it for the second time to replace the valves, and add roller rockers. (Plus FAST 90/other goodies) Mine ran for two days, and then we left for two weeks on a cruise. Just back today, and there's ice on the ground, but I'll at least get to start 'er up in the garage.

Ok, I finally got a file that can idle loaded in the VCM!!!! The NW TB just wouldn't come close to an idle until I drilled a larger hole in the TB. I ended up with a 13/64 bit. What a difference that and a quality startup and idle tune will make. Well I've got some more tuning to do but now that I've got the IAC counts down to 50 or so at warm idle it's time to move on to the timing map and VE maps.

Glad to hear you weren't opposed to drilling the TB blade. It's way smaller than stock so you did a good thing by drilling it out.

At first I was then I started researching on HPTuners forum. I came from LT1 Edit world, and back in 2001 era at that. Things were simpler then, and the IAC on the 58mm TB I used back then was way too small (BBK) so before I ever put the part on the car I did a deep port on the IAC passage and never had to adjust anything. I had forgot all that stuff I did before I used that TB.
This car, after about 1 day of fighting the idle tune and researching on our family road trip to Dallas, I realized that the TB hole is just WAY to small for what I'm trying to do. There are some other options that you can do. Port the IAC passage is one, change out the IAC hardware (from a truck because they are different in some way that allows more flow) or drill a damn hole
In the end, I drilled a damn hole bamn!!!!! Instant fix. IAC's are down to 60 or so at warm idle and it starts like a CHAMP.
Ok so, onward to street tuning!

Good thing you did not mess with the IAC. You would be totally screwed as no one could ever give your their tune and it be right for you. Keep it as close to factory as possible and your tuning will go smoothly. Nice setup BTW. Can't wait to see your numbers.

Ive seen valve cover spacers, or the C5 valve covers have more clearance pretty sure. that'll give you a good reason to relocate the coils to under the cowl.
when are you goin to get it dyno'd? Im also eagerly awaiting the #s. I wish I could have gone the same route for my dads build but he just couldnt justify the expense. plus he's already goin to need a 9" to be able to enjoy drag racing the car with the power its gonna have. you gonna go 9", 12bolt, or dana?

Yeah I've got a long way to go before it see's the dyno. I need a wide band first. I should have that put in relatively soon, in the next month or less. The street tune needs to be done first. Once I'm happy with the way it drives. Then I'll get it on the rollers and see what i can do.
I'm still working out issues like above (valve cover clearance) so it should come as no surprise I won't be ready to dyno for some time. So far I'm loving the car though.
