Default Will noncoated headers rust and discolor real bad?

I ordered the Hooker LT's and got them coated, but now I am wondering if the coating is all that worth it, if I got them noncoated I could get a hooker catback also rather my stock WS6 catback with a flowmaster muffler which is going to sound like *** with off roads. So what is the concensus, Jet hot coated with stock catback or non coated with Hooker catback,I can't afford the coating and the catback. Will the headers rust badly? please lend me some expert help.

It depends on where you live and how many miles you put on the car. When I pulled off my MAC headers after a year and a half (30K miles or so) they still looked very good. Here in Houston, we don't have snow or road salt though.

My non-coated FLP headers just have a little surface rust on them after a year. A quick bead blast and they would look new again.

Does a fat baby poot? Yeah, they'll rust and look like they've been on the car forever. I bought a set of headers for one of my chevelles (427 big block) and within a week they were rusted, even after "high temp coating" that was without even being driven on the road, still tuning and building the rest of the car.....so I opted to go ahead and get ceramic coated ones, love them, no problems at all! (I could have had the other set coated, but I'm using them while building my other chevelle and then I'll get them coated for it).

The Mac's have a better factory coating than the new Hookers don't they? The Hookers are just black paint which weems as though it would rust bad, if they would maintain like the Mac's do I would probably go non coated and save the save.

Pay attention here guys,.....if you buy headers without the coating, sand blast them and use a high heat paint like VHT's flame proof paint (1500 degrees) and they will look good for a very long time.
The problem is with mandrel bent tubes there is oil residue left on the tubes. They don't clean the tubes when they are painted at the factory. So if when you get them you sand blast all the factory new paint off and put a few good coats of high temp paint, on the sand blasted surface, they will last. I have done this several times. The last set I did has gone a year and the paint still looks great. But paint doesn't offer the heat barrier the coating does.

I've had my SLP LT on for almost 1 1/2 years with one of that in Alaska. I have slight suface rust in the nooks so I would think non coated would tend to rust bad. But that would not be a prob in FL.

I live in Texas, and my turdgen has uncoated headers. They look terrible. <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">
