Default 8.1L motor ?(everyone read)

got a question about the motor in the new 2002 chevy avalanche.....there is a 8.1 L motor in it...the question is whether the heads are ls1 style or not.....any help is appreciated.....i just want to know if its similar to the 6 liter iron blocks people have been using.....basically im asking if this can be used for an "ls1" setup....
thanks

The 496 is indeed a big block, and you can get it in the Avalanche, as well as the 3/4-ton and 1-ton GMC's and Chevy trucks. The majority of the Avalanches have the 5.3L in it. I rarely see a 3/4-ton Avalanche.

The 8100 is a stroked 454, makes like 505 ft. lbs. torque.

The 8.1 L motor really sucks the gas!!!!

1 ton pick up, 8.1L, 6-sp, 4:10 = 10m/gal no load
8M/gal loaded
with a 35 gal tank that roughly 350 miles between fills!!!!!!! UGH!!!!

Love the power though!!!!!

Here's a lil more info on both the standard 8.1l and the marine versions.
Standard 8.1l
Marine 8.1l
