Does ANY cat back sound worth a crap with Macs?

Does ANY cat back sound worth a crap with Macs?
I currently have a stock catback with a Flowmaster muffler and a cutout. I had a 4" Mufflex with a Flowmaster that sounded awesome EXCEPT for the rasp. It sounded AWFUL when it shifted into OD. What exhausts sound decent with Macs? Thanks, Shawn

What do you mean when it shifted into OD? What does that have to do with the bad rasp?
If your talking about that 2000-2500rpm range where LS1's rasp horribly with off-road pipes than I totally understand what your talking about. Trust me, its not just Mac's. Any header/off-road y set-up will rasp and sound like total A$$ on our cars.
For what it is worth, I've heard that there is miminal to no rasp with both the Hooker cat-back and SLP 20TL system when using off-road pipes.

Yep, if you don't want the rasp than just put cats back on and your car will sound very good. Too bad you got rid of that Mufflex as it would have sounded great with headers and highflow cats.

I've heard the Hooker cat-back sounds good with this setup as well. I know the rasp sound myself all too well.

This is correct! SLP dual/dual also has no rasp issues. I’ve tried a couple of different setups and the results are as follows:
Stock Y-pipe with stock cats and a Flomaster American Thunder catback: Sounded good, deep and no rasp. Very little drone (to me anyway). Flowed pretty bad from what most say though.
Stock Y-pipe with Mufflex race pipes and FM AT catback: Horribile rasp between 2100 and 2400. Other than the rasp (which was unbearable to me) it sounded good and deep though, and it revved freely and seemed to pick up SOTP power.
Stock Y-pipe with stock gutted cats and FM AT catback: NO rasp at all, souned great at every rpm, very deep and just the right volume level. I seemed to loose SOTP power over the race pipes though, it felt like it did when the cats were ungutted (power wise).
SLP Y-pipe with Mufflex race pipes and an SLP 2OTL catback: This is my current set up. NO rasp, nice deep powerful tone, a little quieter than the FM system was without cats, but it has a much more “built” sound to it than the FM did. It would probably be too quiet for my tastes if I did run cats with it though. I seemed to pick up quite a bit of SOTP power over the last setup, and the motor revs a lot more freely now This is my favorite setup I’ve tried so far.

Trust me, the SLP LM & cutouts with offroads are NO better. Sounds like complete A$$ as well.

SLP dual-dual is a different system than the LM. Has a muffler and it a LOT quieter than the LM.

I already know that. I was making a reference to what he said about Borla's and orp's. I meant that LM's and cutouts sound just as bad as the Borla's do with orp's.

Actually, I think the Borla sounds worse than the LM with headers and ORP. The LM doesn’t rasp quite as bad as Borla. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything rasp as bad as Borla + ORY + headers =

I guess. Either way though those set-ups ought to be banned on LS1's if you know what I mean!? Didn't you say that you know somebody who has the an LS1 with a Borla/orp set-up that sounds like a Civic going down the dragstrip?

Re: Does ANY cat back sound worth a crap with Macs?
MAC headers, MAC Y-pipe with cats, LM w/ resonator removed and Borla 3in race bullet muffler, sounds cherry. Even get kudos from Stang owners on the sound. Adjusting the tips also has a big impact on the interior sound level.
