Default think i spun a bearing!!!

Ok Im new to the scene here so please dont flame me. Dunno what happened. I was runnin my '93 TA kinda hard and all the sudden it started knockin. Had a few people tell me it was a rod but i pulled all the plug wires one at a time to see if it would stop but it didnt. Is this a reliable test?? What all will have to be replaced if i did spin a bearing? Thanks for helpin the newbie. I <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> ts greatly appreciated.

I just took apart a motor with a spun bearing. I didn't hear the motor running, but was told it sounded like a bent pushrod, so I'm assuming there is a bad knock. Anyway, there is a bearing that connects the rods to the crank. The bearings look like half-circles and there are two per rod. When a bearing is "spun," one half of the bearing rolls over on the other. By the looks of this motor, it was run quite a bit after it happened because the crank was ground down and scratched up pretty bad. Not sure how the LT1's respond to over-reving, but I do know for a fact (unfortunately) that LS1's are prone to bent pushrods. Could have floated the valves, hit a valve against a piston head...could be a lot of things. Hope I at least helped to define the spun bearing, unfortunately your description could be one of many things. Did you miss a shift?? Over-rev?? Good luck to you!

I didnt even run it out to redline. Thats what gets me. Its got 91k on it. Thought it might have been a valve or pushrod also but from what I can tell its louder from under the car and its toward the rear of the motor. I just had the tranny out putting in a new clutch. It could be something back there but it sounds more like its on the inside.

Since your motor has so many miles on it i would get like a little bit of a bigger motor and some new heads and new cam well if you have the means to do so. A place you might wanna check out is ARE http://www.agostino-racing.com/ or MTI http://www.motorsporttech.com/ They have some good LT1 stuff.

Thicker 50W oil might quiet it down? Then trade it in? Otherwise you are looking at a rebuild. Keep the RPM's down low or you'll throw a rod thru the block.

Just put in VR1 Racing 50W today. Made it a lil quieter, not enough though. Any other tricks??? What would it take to fix it with the least money possible??? Thanks for all of the quick responses. I need to get this thing traded for the LS1.

Try selling it to CarMax. They give good prices usually. Might not even start the car. They put quotes in writing good for 30 days.
