Default Bulding engine question??

Hey guys I'm new hear and hope to learn a lot.
On to the post. I'm planning on building a LS1 up. I'm looking for 450-500 rwhp N/A. This will be for a daily driver of sorts, it won't see the track much, so I need it to be driveable. I also want to keep it as light as possible. So far what I was thinking was to stroke it to 396ci, a hydraulic roller or solid roller cam w/ poly locks and some good after market flowing heads. What do you guys think? Thanks for the help.

for that HP...an all-bore setup (MTI or equivalent) with ported heads will get you up in the 460+ RWHP range.

I'd stay hydraulic cam and use the stock rockers

All the sponsors are listed at the right of the screen. Just scroll up or down for MTI.

Most guys are not using solid rollers because of the expense it takes to run them. I'm not the right person to ask but I think it cost an additional $1000???

Thanks Fireball. Why a hydraulic cam over the solid cam? Are getting them relashed that much of a problem or is ti for driveablity that I should stick with the hydraulic cam? One other thing with the all bore motor what kind of rwtq are we talking about with 460 rwhp? One other thing whats MTI or others websites?

thanks Gun

Jayson at MTI do a 4.200" bore now, with the LS1 alloy block, with stock crank = 401 cubes. Thats the biggest all bore engine you can get without going to a C5R block ($$$). Under $1,500 for liners, installed, bored and honed.

Gun, knowledge is essential, but money is even more essential. It ALL depends on how much money you can spend. If you dont have much money to spend then I would get an old school carbeurated chevy motor.

It has to be a LS1. Right now I'm not sure on the amount. I'm looking into stuff so I can get an idea of cost. I plan on starting the build up at the end of this year beginning of the next. So I'm trying to learn some stuuf before I start, if I ever do I need it to be driveable and reliable as it can be with the rwhp I want, hopefully around 500. But I'll keep researching. Thanks guys.
