Ya'll are gonna kill me... heads/cam question
Okay, folks... just submitted my expense report and I should have $5300 heading my way shortly and I am STRONGLY leaning towards putting that cash towards a heads/cam setup. The two options that I am considering at the moment are either the GTP S2/TR224 setup, or the G5 setup.
Because I am a big believer in the statement that what works best for one application may not work best for another, let me tell ya'll what my application is:
- daily driven '01 M6 Z28 w/ 4.10 gears (and a spare 3.73 rear if I want to swap it in)
- will have SLP LT's/Mufflex 4" installed at the same time
- will be installing Shaner's S2 TB at the same time
- will be installing a MAF of some flavor at the same time (not sure which one yet; open to suggestions... may stick with the factory unit)
- will be hauling the car to Ed Wright for a dyno tune
- will have lid, FTRA, and 160 T-stat in place as well
Right now I cruise the car pretty mildly most of the time, shifting by 2k RPM, etc... I understand that opening up the heads and going with a beefier cam will result in a hit on low-speed torque but I can deal with that (whatever cam I get will be on a 112 center, and I always have the 4.10s). I also won't mind turning it a little tighter during cruising.
The dyno graphs that I have seen for both of these combos seem to indicate at least 300 lb/ft @2500 RPM, which is more than the car layed down when stock, so it shouldn't be all that undrivable when driven mildly.
Anyhoo, I'd like to see trap speeds approaching 117-118 and I think that's a pretty realistic goal given the increased breathing.
Does anyone have any input on this??
Thanks, folks...
BTW- as far as numbers go, I'd like to see 41X-43X RWHP and 400+ RWTQ

Re: Ya'll are gonna kill me... heads/cam question
Well,
I'm in "Dallas Freakin Texas" too I have a 99T/A with the GTP S2 heads and the TR 224 112 cam and my car is also a daily drver, I love it. BTW, If Ed is doing the tuning he will want to use one of his MAF's so don't buy one.

I wouldnt go with the G5 package too much money.
If you are in Texas and want local look at MTI or GTP. There have been great results posted with the reverse split pattern cams as well.
I think a nice XE-R based 234/226 112LSA .59x/.585 lift cam with a good set of heads would be killer provided there are no P to V clearance issues
Cheers,
Chris

The MMS "stage 2" 224v.31 setup is awesome and a good deal.
