Default DTC P0302 #2 Cylinder - Has got me stumped! HELP

It's the only code that shows up and always results with a flashing SES. It seems to always happen around 3000 RPM within a mile of driving. No wierd noises coming from anywhere, plug looks ok, swapped coil packs and wires also.

Please fellas I need some ideas!!

Also, I tried holding a dollar bill to the exhaust tip to see if it gets sucked back towards the exhaust, hell it fluttered so bad it was hard to tell. I always thought if it sucked back towards it that it was a valvetrain issue, can't tell though.

T1 Cam, K-Motion Springs, MAC Headers

Check for carbon tracking on porcelain of plug or cracks in it,check ignition wire with ohm meter against other wires for comparison, swap to other cylinders to see if missfire moves with it. Next is injector problem, it may have sticking or pluggage problem.

I never thought of the injectors, I'll try that next!

Is it possible for a broken valve spring to be silent????

No, a broken valve spring sounds like ***. Your car runs like ***, it idles like ***.

Broken valve springs aren't a sneaky problem at all.

If the misfire becomes persistant despite your efforts you are going to have to look into bent pushrod / fooked lifter / damaged valves; all of which typically make noise though.

I'm going to swap injectors in the morning....Is there anything tricky or not obvious, that I am going to need to know? I can't find any write-ups?? Once depressurized, the injectors should come off the fuel rail pretty straight forward, right?

I just got the car out of the garage today after a long winters sleep. Changed the oil and fuel filter and was ready to spend the day cruising!

Oh well it's time for <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" />

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> It is not an injector either <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Is there anything else I can check other than pulling the valve cover and checking the springs, etc??

The car runs strong, I let it idle for about 10 minutes before I drove it, as always once I reached 3000rpm it flashed the code! Timing at wide open is down to 25.5, 40 at cruise, does that have to do with the code? Never noticed it top be so low.

I hate to take it to a shop if I can avoid it, any other help would be apreciated!

As long as you're checking everything, don't forget crank sensor...

Good luck,

Wow it would be cool if I knew where it was. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I think it is time to invest in some Service Manuals. I can't stand to pay to have it done. I think it is time to support my local speed shop though.

Thanks for the help.

Don't know if you want to do this, but you could pull the valve cover, and take off the #2 rocker and check to make sure that the pushrod is straight. Might be good to check them *all*.

Sometimes it's nice to drop off a car and say "fix it, here's my credit card." <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

try swapping the #2 spark plug with another cylinder and see if the misfire changes cylinders.
If that doesn't change anything, then I would pull off the rocker arms and check for a bent push rod. If you find a bent pushrod I would pull all 16 rods out and check them. I have never seen just one pushrod bend. It's usually at least 2.
