Top Speed w/422
Anyone care to take a guess on what my top speed would be?
MTI 422 Package, LS6 intake, R1 CAM, KTRE 12 bolt w/3.42 gear. 17's. (Other stuff too, just thought I'd include the relavent info)
figure 500rwhp.
I'm asking because I was thinking about putting in a taller gear, and want to still have a high top-end (lets say 170).

A4, 2800RPM Stall converter.
I doubt the car will ever see the top end with the 3.42s, (I don't have the ***** for 190).
3.73's sound like they might be a more efficient use of my horsepower.

Re: Top Speed w/422
Probably would not see above 180-185 mph due high coefficient of drag of these cars. Do a little work on the mirrors, nose and the top end will go up quite a few mph.

I thought somebody made sport seats with preformed pinch marks.

M6?
If I had 3.42's in my A4 I think I could hit 190mph with 17's.
I went 165mph with the ol 346ci motor.

What are you talking about..? I have been over 180mph in my old setup. This was verified by the motorcycle behind me going 184mph.. 3 cars behind and getting I was around 6200rpm and climbing in 5th..

Re: Top Speed w/422
My car feels fine above 170mph. I am getting revalved bilsteins when my car comes back.. 500rwhp should be well over 200mph.. I am thinking somewhere around 220mph with 3.42's.

Re: Top Speed w/422
The gear calc says 5th tops out at 208mph with a 6900rpm rev limiter.. 500rwhp is enough to get you there. Yes we have drag issues, but with the right suspension setup a 422ci should have no problem reaching that speed.

Re: Top Speed w/422
Damn my car seems to sway pretty bad over 145-150.... We don't have any good places around here either though.... with a good road it might get better.... but until I get some bigger wheels and tires and get my tranny right I wont exceed the speed limit!

It's common knowledge that the speedos on motorcycles are way off. My 99 GSXR750 was off by 10 MPH at 80, and my friend radar'd me at 150 and the speedo said 169ish. On my '93 GSXR it was off by 15 mph when cruising 70. My '00 R1 wasn't any better and Hayabusa's are off by more than that over 120mph.
Not saying you weren't doing that speed (we had a friends 96 LT4 vette doing what the speedo said was 181), but just letting you know that they really don't calibrate the speedos on bikes.

Re: Top Speed w/422
There is an old article of a Lingenfelter 383 LT1 Firebird which made about 450 flywheel hp with 3.23 gears topping out in 5th @ 192 mph. With 500 rwhp and a 3.42 I believe you should be able to see just over 200 mph - If I remember correctly you've got one hell of a suspension set-up, good for those highway runs. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Top Speed w/422
If you do the drag calcs (.32 drag, 22 ft frontal area), you should be able to net just over 200 mph with 500 hp. After 200 though, the curve starts getting pretty steep.

Re: Top Speed w/422
Don't forget at those top speeds your tires actually swell and your speedos are inaccurate anyway. They only way to know what your true speed is, is to use a GPS receiver and track your MPH that way. Those are dead on.

I am with Vince though, he can break 200 mph. I myself have done 6300 rpms in 5th gear, and that is definately on the dangerous side of 180+ mph.
