I want to do a 383 Stroker LT1 build up, using a mild cam, and GTP or ARE Stage 2 heads. I don't think I need an expensive Crankshaft, but if someone thinks I do, say so. I just want to know how much and where I can get a 383 Stroker kit. I might add a 100 shot of N20 to that combo down the line, not sure, I think it will be primarily an N/A combo. Thanks!!!

is this ls1 stuff?
there aint no such bird as a "cheap" stroker crank for these motors yet.
the market is cornered by lunati.

Sure it's not LS1 STUFF but I don't drive an LS1 either but I still post here. There are alot of people on this board that have had or do drive LT1s that are VERY knowledgable. I have learned quite a lot from this site(and still learning). And there really aren't any LT1 sites that have good tech info.
94FB, I am interested in your setup. In the future, that is my ideal setup. A 383 with a 100 shot of N2O. I am also interested in what all is needed, how much it will cost, and what your results will be.

Id Go with a forged Crank just to be on the safeside. Chances are if you add Nitrous to the setup you'll need the extra strength in the block. Usually with a 100 shot its good for a stock 350 most 383 guys try something a little more daring like 200-300, So having a good crank will save you money in the long road. You can get a stroker kit with a cast steel crank for about 1515, While a kit with a forged crank will go for about 1995(without balancing). If you want to find out more call nu-tekmotorsports and talk to nick, or give MTI a call they have made some excellent stroker motors for us LT1 guys. If you really intend on planning a mild stroker than the cast steel would be alright, but knowing the guys around here you can never get enough power so go with a forged crank.

I'm sure you should be able to find a reasonably inexpensive combo...a good friend of mine is selling/parting his new 396 LT1 as he is focusing on his LS1 now:

It depends on what kind of power and rpm levels you are looking for. Under 600rwhp and 7000rpm you can generally use a cast crank, which is around 300 intead of 700-2000 for a forged to billet crank. there are quite a few options on rods, pistons, etc. also.
What kind of power do you want to make?
What is your budget like?
What kind of power adders, and what is the max amount you would consider running?

I am looking to probably make only 700 HP at THE MOST N/A, But I do want to make this a reliable combo, so I may just get a Forged steel crank, but I'd rather only spend less than 1500 for it, so between 1000-1550 for the forged steel crank sound right??? As far as the rest of the rotating assembly, whatever is best use with that crank, those stage 2 heads, and that mild cam. I would like to pass emmissions, and I have heard I can do that, even if it runs 10.99 I will be happy. When I am a bit older, I will do a 396 and make A LOT more power than now. Another consideration I think I should address here is Ford 9" or 12-bolt, I know a 12-bolt is good for up to 600 RWHP, and they ARE lighter, so maybe I should get that, but a 9" will last no matter what I do, and i also heard gear swaps are easier. So far the engine parts price seems to be around
2300 stage 2 heads
300-400 for mild cam
2500 for decent bottom end
A little under 6000, that is what I wanted to spend for the motor. However, I AM planning to do another engine combo later in life, so maybe I want to spend just 6000 for everything(install, new rear, and other essentials) I think I could still make it into the 10.99 range with a little N20 help. Then there is the T-400 consideration, I just had my 4L60E rebuilt to....But i know it can't take more than 400 HP, so it may not like that combo very much...Need more suggestions I think, thanks!!!

Well it seems as though, the heads and cam are all that I can afford, but oh well, mid-high 11s isn't too bad I guess...

A 383LT1 is what, a 3.75 stroke and 4.000 bore?
A 396ci is what, a 4.030 bore?
I think forged LT1 cranks are around $1,000.
Try also www.lt1tech.com for additional comments.
H/C LT1's are making upper 370-390rwhp...
