yeah id use the steel rods. you dont want one of those wooden ones to snap and pieces get caught in there.

I hope your not using the longer bolt method to put the harmonic balncer back on if so good luck, because I tried it and striped the threads out. What you should do is buy the tool thats floating around here that some member is selling, or go buy some all thread, couple nuts, and washers. LS1howto's is where I read to do my cam install and didnt have any problems with the install other than the harmonic balncer.

Good luck

most compression tester lines (the one that srews into the spark plug hole) have an end that might work with your air compressor. mine did.

Sorry about your luck, but it does give you an opportunity to get a few things ironed out:

1) extra keepers (valve locks)
2) get a better spring compressor, like the crane one
3) address the issue of pulling the balancer back in place as stated above

removeing it isnt a a problem just go to your local auto parts store and get a puller to take it off. To put it back on just get a piece of all thread, some washers and 2 nuts. that way if you do strip the threads you strip the threads on the piece of all thread and not the crank

Remove it with a three jaw puller - you can rent them fro Autozone, put it back with threaded rod, nut and washer. Then be sure to use a new bolt for final assembly.

definetly get the tool to press the crank back on. it works great! and theres no worring about the stripping the threads. 618Hawk sells them. send him a PM a get one! hes a great guy, and has FAST shipping.

As far as a spring compressor, the crane is the best IMO. i used it and it worked great. and knocking out 2 at once is awesome. i got all cylinders but #8 done in like 45 min-1 hour. #8 took me awhile because i coudlnt see back there to get the damn thing lined up. Good luck man, im glad you decided to do it yourself again! you will be proud of yourself when your done, and your can used the saved money from the install on a good tune! Remember were here if you need help!

when i comes to jobs like this, i almost prefer to be by myself. that way theres no one there to distract me and get me off track. Plus, besides pulling the radiator out, its pretty much a one man job anyway. its hard to fit two hands, let alone 4 in some spots.

Just put on some good music, and your good to go.

^^no its not hard at all. once you think you have it lined up, turn the crank over by hand once or twice. you will easily be able to tell if its lined up correctly or not. even if its off by a tooth, youll be able to tell after turning it over a couple times.

also pulling the radiator isnt bad. i pulled mine by myself. just took a little extra time walking from side to side of the car.
