well ****** wallmart had no pen magnets.. but i picked up a 5/16ths wooden dowel.. ima bout to try it out.... how far does the 24inch rod have to in? to kno if its in all the way.. i dont want to think its all the way in there... and then its not...
Stay away from the magnets. If a magnet does come off and stick to a lifter you're going to have to be damn lucky to get it out without removing the head on that side. I think I'd try the Russian Roulette method before the magnets. When the wooden dowel comes to a positve stop you'll know it has reached the back of the block. There's no pressure on the lifters during this process and the plastic retainers help hold them up too. The rod is just an insurance policy.

Yeah...too late for that now...we broke the magnet..and it dropped in ...
jk jk omg. but it did break, but luckily the magnet stayed stuck on valve cover and we got it with needle nose. Couldnt get the left side rod in...so we used the wooden dowel....it went in smooth. I recommend one steel for right, one wooden for left. And good magnets only for the front lifters...if you need extra help. once you get to the back..u risk breaking the magnet. Cam is in..and now on to oil pump and tube....any suggestions?

I have taken off the oil pump...but i need to get that sproket behind it off..so i can get the one from my double roller on...my pulley puller arms are too short..so i bought a two jaw gear puller...but the arms wont hold on..it seems as if there is no other way around it... what do you all think about just leaving my stock chain and sproket on there...it would make my life a lot easier.

I just got an ls2 chain, you can use it with the ls1 sprockets that are on the car.

ok...cam gear and timing chain on! dual roller style. Oil pump on shaft...pickup tube in....pickup tube about to be in..just a lil fight. Next...dual springs...it says 2-6 hours to complete. I have the crane cams valve spring "on the car" compressor....any tips for that? Any tips for anything for valvesprings?

hey if some of the questions i seem to be asking are stupid. than its not me..lol.. my friends is replying when im workin on the car... well rite now im fighting with the stupid pick up tube bolt.. its A BITCH!!!!! dam it.. well the tube is in.. just need the bolt.. than bolt down the oil pump.. and oil pan.. than get started on the valve springs... i was looking at tha crane cams thing.. but what bolts am i suppose to use to hold it to the block? it didnt come with any? am i suppose to use my rocker bolts?
NO not rocker arm bolts......thats not the valvesrping tool i used but if i remember correctly ur supposed to get some other stronger thicker bolts. Them rocker arm bolts are small.
Did you have the pump gears out when you installed the pickup tube in the pump? Now you can see why it would be nice to have the pan off so you could loosen the bolt that holds the pickup tube mounting bracket. It would give you a little wriggle room to get the tube in. Since I don't take the pan all the way off(just take the bolts out to gain access to the pickup tube bolt) it sure helps to have the oil pump disassembled. At least that way you can swivel the pump port in the direction of the pickup tube to get it in.
