Default Need advice and help on cam and valvetrain ASAP

Okay, I am looking inot a used cam. Firstly, it is a B1 with 15K miles on it, is this something that should make me go away from buying this cam? Also, the hardened pushrods have 15 K on them and the ISKY 235 D springs and titanium retainers have 9 K on them. Are these springs good and strong? I want something that will not wear down so I have to replace them? Also, will 295D springs work with 235 retainers? Any info on the springs or whether or not I should buy them would be great. Thanks!

Oh, BTW, I wont need idle tuning with this cam with the 114 LSA, right? Thanks! I need to know if the cam is safe to buy, the owner seems knowledgable. Should I replace the springs?

Personally, I would not buy used valvetrain components. Now the pushrods should be fine. I would inspect them and make sure the are all straight. Also make sure they are the length that you need. If you have stock heads I would stay with stock length. The miles driven might have been hard. I would get the cam for the good price and purchase some Comp 918's, tit retainers, and be done with it..

Nothing wrong with buying a used cam. They're easy enough to inspect for wear, and unless yer buying a used HotCam, chances are it was heat-treated correctly <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

DO NOT, however, buy used valvesprings. Even if they were the springs that were with the cam in the last usage. Springs that are used with cams that have fast ramps (like the B1) wear out quicker. Also, springs "learn" all the harmonics from one set-up and may not take kindly to the next set-up.

It ain't the LSA (so much, if at all) that will cause programming problems, it's the valve events themselves. The significantly longer durations of the B1 are hard for the PCM to learn w/in its limited learning parameters.

I was reading the for sale section and realized who you were buying the cam from. Mark can hook you up with some new springs for cheap.. I would go thru him... He knows what works..
