Re: Starting with C5R block....
I assume sleeves are there to increase strength. If you bore the block out too much the cylinder walls become too thin. The sleeves increase the strength!

Thats not what I meant by 'why'. I know about the cylinder wall strength issues, I meant 'why' does it need to be dry sumped?? Why can't you run a wet sump system?
Cheers

Re: Starting with C5R block....
The price of the block from SD or anywhere else seems to be the same $6,195-$6,200. Heads $2,500-$2,550. Big spread.
I'm gonna meet with Lamar tomorrow. I'm sold on the block but are you guys sure those C5R heads are worth the extra trouble and expense over a properly done set of LS6 heads? Solid roller cam or not?

Re: Starting with C5R block....
If you want the most you can get!
The thread was initially asking...."if money wasn't an issue, what would you use to build.....yada yada yada...."
In this case you should get the C5R heads because every little bit helps.
BTW,
I can get the 12480005 for 2310.00.......

Re: Starting with C5R block....
In the case of C5R heads v/s LS6 heads I wouldn't term it "every little bit."
Folks, the difference between LS6 heads and C5R heads are far more than even the difference between LS1 heads and LS6 heads. C5R heads UNPORTED flow as well or better than FULLY PORTED LS6 heads. Yes, there's that much difference. Hell, C5R heads might be more fittingly discussed in one of the power adder forums!

To put things into light,
C5R:LS6::SB2ouble hump

They are bare, no guides,Seats, ect. They DO require a Jesel valvetrain, and with a 2.00 intake valve they flow around 340, UNPORTED!

Re: Starting with C5R block....
Its going to be up to the porting and the whole engine setup. As to what your motor will benefit from the C5R heads.
I would get soem really good port work done to the heads and then build your setup off the heads. I would also give katech a call. I have spoke with them a few times and I did ask a few questions about the C5R block. You can get it form them already machined for wet sump. This will keep things looking cleaner....I also remember that they said something about what size crank (stroke) it can take. They said that they can machine it to what you want at their shop and then send it to you.
It would just be good to talk to them about the setup and concerning the heads and the block. Since they are the ones that make all the C5R stuff. I would start there and then work with it.
Also like others said a FAST (speedpro/fel-pro) system should be used. I would also go with the individual cylinder control and so on. They will make everything for you to match what you have and want. The wiring harness, the software, sensors....just about everything. They are also known for having VERY hi quality. I believe they were sold a few times...but most of the original standards are still there.
Good Luck with everything.

Re: Starting with C5R block....
Not sure if it was mentioned already.......
but, the C5R heads...don't even have the same intake port design. They are more like the square port ford type intake ports.....Or howvere you want to describe them....
