Default Thickest head gasket?

I know there are several head gaskets available, but which drop compression the most?

Thanks,

Denz

i know cometic has a .125" gasket. thats thick.
i was going to go with a .078 to drop my CR down, but when my mechanic had my engine apart and needed to replace the bearings i decided to drop it by pistons instead. so i sent um back and got the .057" HP series gaskets.

it you need to find out what CR you want buy gasket or whatever use this.

Not sure I'd go that thick. That's a 100% increase. I went with the .078"s here. People bring up the quench height issue.

Let us know how it works out. I've had Zero probs with the .078"s.

LOL. The .125" spooks me as well. I had no idea there was suge a large gasket. I was looking for something more in the range of .078". At least I know what is available now.

Thanks

I'm about to put the Cometic .078's on, too.
I'm happy to hear you guys aren't having any issues with them...
Are there any tips you'd give on installing them? (they're the multi-layered steel type)
Thanks

I'm not sure I like the idea of decreasing C/R with thicker head gaskets. Yes, it's the quench area issue that bothers me. Some say you will end up with a higher tendency towards detonation despite the decrease in C/R.

First off--it isn't my car. Just wanted to get that out in the open.

The guys doing the buildup are well aware of the quench area issues. We were discussing that last night. They are cautious, but would like to know what is available should they think it is worth a try. They have built a ton of FI cars (their specialty).

How does an 02 Z06, Katech LS6 Heads/Cam (Blower design heads), ARP Rod Bolts, 10# ATI D1SC, and a huge fuel system sound? Should be an interesting setup. It will have a very conservative tune until the bottom end gets built.

I would be worried about the possibility of increased detonation. I guess the only way to know though, is to try it. Maybe an LS1 piston head combo can still keep all the air/fuel centralized enough at 8:1 to keep it from detonating under boost. Good luck, and keep us posted!!
