Break in period for a 2002 lightning?

Default Break in period for a 2002 lightning?
My buddy just got his the other day and was wondering when is the break in period over so he can romp and stomp on it?I told him to change the oil at 500 miles to flush some of the meatal shavings out.Any other suggestions?I am not a ford man at leat not yet anyways. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I changed the oil at 500 miles in my '01 Lightning and went to beating on it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Just tell him to hold off on the synthetic oil for a while. I switched to Royal Purple, and it started drinking a quart every 1,000 miles. It still ran like a bat out of hell, though. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Tell him to check out www.f150online.com. They have a Lightning-specific forum, and it's filled with a lot of great info. The Superchips flip chip made a HUGE difference in the performance of the truck! I also saw another 1.5 psi of boost with my JDM induction. I say go for broke and swap the blower pulley, too. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Break in period is when the moving parts establish a wear pattern, rings seal, and most of the metal shavings in the block are trapped in the oil filter. The wear pattern established when new can set the pace for how well the engine performs or lasts.
