Default KATECH C5-R timing chain

I just ordered a Katech oil pump and timing chain. I asked did they have a timing chain that was better than stock. He sold me a "C5-R" chain and says it will work on stock sprockets.

So what's different about this chain that makes it stronger than stock?

It's more durable and beefier, and it will eliminate a lot of the slack found in the stock chain. I'd definitely upgrade to it since you're going to be pulling the oil pump off anyways. I'm going to install the same chain on my next cam swap.

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't being sold a stock chain that was just badged "C5-R".

Anyone know what gaskets etc. I will need in changing the pump out? So far

pick up tube oring
pulley bolt
timing cover gasket or does it have a rubber seal
water pump gasket
crank seal (may as well change it while I'm there)

I thought Katech was a sponsor. Anyway it's Katech. An internet search will get you there.

Before you order the chain from Katech, give John Lloyd an e-mail: streetquick@bigpond.com.au

He sells the same chain cheaper. Alot cheaper

BTW, the Katech chain is actually a Jwis/Rollmaster which is manufactured in Germany.

The only set back is a 7-10 day shipping period....the part sits in customs for a few days

Yeah, it's a JWIS chain as it is stamped on the links. They don't tell you that, they just say 'oh its a "C5-R chain" wanting you to think it's really worth the $111 for the chain from Katech.

But anyway I didn't want to wait 7-10 days for my stuff since my car was down (oil pump crapped, again).

I was pissed when Katech didn't ship my next day air package the day I ordered so I received it two days later.

Oh, well my car is running again (replaced dead oil pump) and I am at least happy about that, even if I did pay extra because I was in a hurry and didn't take too much time to shop around.

After the exchange rate and shipping from Down Under my total came to only $114 (remember, that includes the beautiful Rollmaster billet steel adjustable gears AND the Iwis chain). John's a great guy to deal with and I was surprised to get my package in only a week

WillRace4Food...

Rollmaster does [not] manufacture any chain. They manufacture the timing gears in Brisbane. The Jwis chain that Rollmaster includes in the timing set is made by Iwis Ketten in Germany.

Anyway, John Lloyd is the guy to see about the Rollmaster/Jwis timing set. He can also sell just the Jwis chain for about 60 bucks if you just want to install the chain on your stock GM timing gears.

"Rollmaster do not manufacture chain....they use Jwis Ketten chains manufactured in Germany and have done for over 13 years.

Rollmaster manufacture timing gear sets and as they make the best gear sets in the world they use the best chain in the world....Jwis Ketten.

The above is 100% accurate as I have sold and used their product for over 15 years" ...

FYI... Some related links that may be of interest:
ROMAC

Iwis Ketten

Note that "ketten" is the German word for chains, in other words Iwis (or Jwis) Chains.
