Gonna dynotest Mobil 1 vs. Royal purple tomorrow....
I'm dropping my car off tomorrow to get my heads/cam worked on over the next few days. I'm going to do baseline dynos hopefully tomorrow before the heads/cam install. We are going to dyno with Mobil 1 10w-30 that has 800 miles of wear on it vs. Royal purple #21 5w-30 racing oil.
This may not be a fair test however, because I'm comparing a non-race oil like Mobil one with a 10 weight vs. a race oil w/ a 5 weight. The Mobil 1 also has 800 miles of use.
Anyone want to guess dyno gains with RP???

If you want real #'s, you should dyno a baseline, then change to new Mobile 1, then change to RP. That would give you the most realistic data. Of course I don't know if it would be worth the effort. It would be interesting to see the results though. .02

This should be interesting! I am a RP #21 user here as well. I will venture a guess at +5/+5 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I don't know how realistic this can be though. I've seen people (including myself) make 3 different dyno pulls and run 10rwhp different with no changes at all.

I think switching from hot,old oil to new, cool oil on back to back runs isn't really objective.
You would probably gain a couple of horse going to a dino mix.

LOL at Dope! I should have mentioned this earlier, but now it's probably too late and he's done the dyno test. I've always wondered if an engine would make more power if you ran it one quart low. Would the little bit less oil sloshing around cause the engine to free up a bit of power? I'm sure it wouldn't cause any damage for that short test, with 4.5 quarts still in there to protect it. I might try this out at the dragstrip one day. I'll show up with one quart low, make 3 runs, then add that last quart and make 3 more runs.
