I have had a 218/227 @ 0.554" (114 LSA) in my 382 since it was built. Not to say that the engine isn't powerful but I am only putting down about 430rwhp and am looking for a little more from this setup, closer to 450. I think my cam may be a little tame (and it idles like craaaap).
Here's the big points:
1). Better idle (even duration cam?)
2). More power
3). Drivability, drivability, drivability (this car is a daily driver)
4). Nothing nuts (please don't tell me 240/240 @ 0.610")
Now, I am just looking to swap the cam and fire her back up! The more insight and suggestions the better. Remember my BIG points above.
I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 226/226 at a lift around 570-580. Tell me what you know! Please!

I'm currently running a 224/224 .539 114 lsa. It is EXTREMELY tame. almost sounds stock. I'm putting down 448 rwhp and 439 rwtq. look at sig for other mods.
I'm actually changing this out for a bigger cam in the next couple weeks. let me know if your interested.

Almost sounds good, but I would like a little more duration and the lift seems pretty wimpy. Is that why you are changing cams? Thanks for the offer though.

ya, that's why I'm changing cams. I'm pretty amazed I make the power I do with it though. It's much better suited for a stock CID.
Just letting you know how another duration could perform. I'll post my dyno results of the new cam as soon as it's installed.

I know ARE does a lot of XE-R cam ordering now as does MTI and TR and others.
The new lobes are great for drivability and idle. I am going with a cam swap in september for my ARE 360 with 2.02 1.57 valved heads.
I'll pick up a little power over my 226/234 old style lobe and not sacrifice anything driveability wise.

I also think a XE-R setup is the way to go. Both intake and exhaust should be over 230 duration with those lobes and you will still have a very livable idle.

Give speed inc a call and the XER on both the intake and exhaust is the way to go.My choice would be 236/236 600/600 114 lsa sense it is a daily driver and all.

My short block finally arrived. I am planning on running something like: 241/253 .570/.570 on 106lsa.
It should lope like an MFer. I drove a Z06 with this cam (and a few other mods) for a couple of days. The idle was set a little too high, but I did not mind the cam around town at all.
I am shooting for the 450+rwhp range and some 10's with a good shot of nitrous.

You definitely have some nice power to gain from a cam swap. Feel free to give me a call at the shop to discuss some different cams. We can get you a custom ground XE-R if you'd like. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I think a 230/230 XE-R would idle pretty well with your cubes and make a lot more power than your current cam.
