Default How many miles before Stage II heads & cam?

My dad has an 02' stripper Z28 that he is putting Stage II MTI heads/cam on soon. It has 600 miles on it now.

Also what MTI cam would be best running Stage II heads milled .030"? This is for a fast street car that won't go to the track very much and will be running Nitto's. How will the B1 work?

We will be getting custom programming as well...

I think the B1 cam will do fine. They have other cams too that will work.He might call MTI and ask for suggestions. If he hasn`t ordered the heads yet from them yet he probably rack up enough miles before he gets the heads.I`m not sure, but it will probably take a couple of months to get the heads. Ask them about their X1 cam.One of their customers that have that cam and their S2 heads made 446 rwh!

I'll have the heads next week. I just have to pick the cam and then I need to know how many miles before I put the cam in.

Anyone else?

You probably need a little more cam with that setup.

I run the X1 in mine and made 446 RWHP (I'm pretty sure I'm the guy being referred to in the above post <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> )Great sound, excellent idle quality and picked up 30 rwhp over my T1.

The specs on it are 230/227, .591/571 112 lsa.

I'd highly recommend it.

Hey poolfanatic I'm the one who bought the MAC headers from you in Dallas! Doesn't your car have the LS6 heads? These are just the regular Stage II LS1 heads. I know the X1 is one bad mother but I thought it gave up power from 2500-4500 to get the peak gains from 4500-6500? You see, my father will hardly ever go to the track and he'd rather have more power down low and then still be able to rev it up to 6500 or so occasionally.

I was also thinking would the T1 be a good choice instead of the B1? I believe the T1 is similar to a TR 220-112 isn't it? I know the X1 is a superior racing cam but it is peakier than the B1 and T1 isn't it?

I was thinking either a T1 or TR220-112 with +4 degrees advance in the cam. There are just so many choices it's hard to pick...

I've never overlayed the graphs with my T1 and X1 to check the difference in the power curves although I'm pretty sure that the X1 does make the power a little higher.

Now in the real world, the X1 just feels stronger all the way across the power band. I don't spend a whole lot of time at or above 5K and even down low it feels like it pulls more.

How are those MAC's working for you?

Regards,

David

They're working great. I had to bend my AIR tubes since there weren't any 98' ones with them but it worked no problem. What rear gears are you running with the X1? Do you have a 10-bolt?

Have you taken your car to the track yet?

I'm running 3.73s in a stock 10 bolt with the stock clutch - which is why I don't have any track times right now (can't afford to break the weak links in the chain until I've got funds for replacements!)

A 12 bolt and Mcleod clutch are coming in the next couple of months along with a TNT wet kit and an upgraded fuel system so I'll take it to HRP at that point.
