which pistons? help! rebuilding bottom end
I ordered mti stage 2 heads and c2 cam, the heads will be milled like .30.
I need to know a price on pistons that are SAFE with the stage 2 milled heads.
I don't want issues with not being able to run pump gas, and don't want to have pistons shaved.
will I have to worry about the valves hitting the pistons? (heard something about this on here)
help me choose pistons/rings for stock bore and perhaps rods.
thanks!!!!

Call Thunder. They know what they are doing and sense they are out of state you wont have to pay sales tax on 600 dollar items either.I would go with ross pistons but if your taking the motor apart why not just buy one or at least the block the way you want it?It would be a lot easier and you can just eat the core.

That sounds about right Terry, you might need to think about doing it for a winter project. But the prices seem the same from when I looked. As for the weight it will only be longer as more people start to re-build these cars.

Re: which pistons? help! rebuilding bottom end
Great question. My motor blew up 2 weeks ago ( oil pump let loose ) and I'm in the process of discovery ( yea, like a kid in a candy store! ). I'm going to get the shortblock redone , and now I'm looking at heads and cams. So I would like the answer as well on milling .30 and what it does to the gas u can safely run. I can run 93 in Cleveland....

Should be fine on pump gas.

Terry99ta,
The best thing to do once you get your combo together is buy a Scanmaster so you can check for knock retard while you are driving. You will also see what your timing is and be able to check trouble codes. It's money well spent IMHO. I used one to determine how much race gas I had to run with my solid roller 409. I'm running 50/50 104 and 93 without problems with 12.75:1 static compression. I do have a rather large cam though so that helps. You should be ok under 11:1 with pump gas, but depending on your tuning and cam, its better to be safe than sorry.

Re: which pistons? help! rebuilding bottom end
Youre not gonna need rods. Just get some good rod bolts and the stock ones should be fine. Just inspect them closely.
Damn, since you are rebuilding your short block too bad you sold the blower. I know if wouldnt have sold the blower there would be no money for a rebuild.

Re: which pistons? help! rebuilding bottom end
My rods, pistons and rings cost about 1500. Whent with manley rods and custom wisco pistons. The custom pistons aloud me to use cheaper SBC rods. My motor is being built for boost though, only 8.5:1

Re: which pistons? help! rebuilding bottom end
These J&E pistons ran $950 and the Manley Pro Series Light Weight rods were $1200.
Yeah, they are worth it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
