7 cylinders 185 psi 1 cylinder 250. Whats up?
I just did a compression test. I have 7 cylinders pumping up to 185 psi and holding. I have one cylinder 250 psi and holding. What would do this. The heads have just been re-built. The seven plugs where a light golden brown the plug for the cylinder running 250 psi has black carbon on it. The motor is running a little hot also about 200 to 220. Why would one plug have carbon and not others? Why would it also be 250 psi on a cp/test?

prolly oil giving you a false reading on that cylinder.
try using a few cc's of oil in each cylinder and pull a "wet" compression check. i would bet the 250 psi cylinder does not go up any more.
rings are shot or the guides and or seal or a combo of all three.

valve guids and seals are brand new. The head where just done 300 miles ago. After my compression test I now have a very bad tic in the valve train.
What should the compression (psi) read when normal? Closer to 250 or closer to 185?

Would a broken spring on the exhaust side do this? (250 psi) I have CC 941's in maybe I broke a spring?

I just had a compression test and leak down test done on my 2000 SS and my readings were different than your, did my mechanic read it wrong. & cylinders read 60# and one read 56#. The leak down test showed between 4-6 %.

Does your car run STRONG? Those numbers are either read wrong or differntly or you have big problems.

It runs strong but it smokes bad. Startes smoking right after the cam install. Thats why I took it down for a ck. He told me my motor was tight.
