Default FMS F14 First Start !!!

Cam swap was pretty easy to do, I had the car done about two nights ago but I needed to get the screw off end of a spark plug I lost during the swap. Took about 3 days to do between it and putting a lift kit on a dakota.

Oil pressure shot right to 60PSI, car idled around 1400 and dipped to 1100 on and off. Sounded great but you can hear a lot of what I'm guessing is just valve train noise? I figured it was the lifters filling up at first but the noise never went away. I used TR 7.400 push rods which is was the F14 is supposed to use and it has Patriot Gold springs.

How long has it run since you got it started? It should quiet down more than that.

I kept it on for about 10-15 minutes...I figured it would go away but it never did...I could always hear some valve train noise before with the T-rex but it was never this loud before?

Don't really hit the track that much and even though the rex is ok as a DD it's not the most fun cam on the street. I wanted something with a little lower power band and some more low end torque. I do miss the smell of gas when I turn on my car though , theres something about the smell of premium gasoline I like.

I think you need more preload. If you could find out what the measurement of the base circle radius of your cam is i can tell ya what size pushrods you need. I assume you know that higher lift cams have smaller base circles. I had to go with a 7.425 because my cam measures .723 and the stock cam is .775

The noise is amplified in the camera and is not as loud in person...but is still much louder than what it should be. It the regular F14 not the highlight, 232/234 .598/.598 112 +4. I talked to predator a while back and he recommended me the 7.425 push rods but mentioned that most vendors would have told me to go with the 7.400's because they are more readily available. I will be putting a set of 243 castings on in the next few weeks and may order some 7.425's from can to put in their will I have it back down.

Definately noiser than it would be with a bit more pre-load. The 7.425s would do the trick.

If the 243's are milled it will help with the preload. Also go with .040 thick gaskets. Then the 7.400 will be good.

Sounds good, you are right there is a lot of lifter noise. Are you still running stock lifters?

the 243's are milled 2 thousands for clean up, im not sure on what head gasket to go with yet but I may just buy a pushrod lenght checker becuase this noise is going to annoy the **** out of me soon. And yeah stock lifters.
