Do any shops market small cams anymore? why NOT?

I finally decided on a 232/236 LSK lobes on a 110+2.
Reading what guys like Patrick G and others have written to people about smaller durations and seeing the performance of the LSK lobes has moved me away from the monster cams.
No offense, but a 232/236 on LSK is a pretty steep cam. Obviously will make huge numbers, and without a doubt, when matched with some high velocity, smaller runner heads, will rape; but its no 224, thats for sure.
I personally just purchased a 228/232 .585/.595 on 114+2 XE-R lobes from another member. I know its biggER, but not biggEST. I want to be tame on the street (and be driveable by, lets say, my mom) and still perform relatively well at the track. Even though I mainly street race.

I think the Hotcam is capable of 11's, if not then low 12's. I ran 12.50's @ 113 with no headers, LS1 intake, stock TB, full weight hardtop 6M, 4.10's, Borla, HPP3. I'm glad to see this thread. Big is what sells in everything right? I have a Patrick G cam that sounds like it will be outstanding. Definitely higher on the lift side than the "small" cams, but 230/230 duration.

That is stinkin impressive. Headers make the difference with a cam for sure. Hmmmmm, makes me think again about the HC kit. So frickin cheap. I plan to stay with 3.42's until I just put a 12 bolt in, so that cam really seems to be strong down low, which is what you want anyway.

You guys crack me up. So we have a "small cam", a "mild cam", a "medium cam", a "sleeper cam", a "big cam", did I leave one out? Makes that 3/4 race and full race cam deal a lot easier to understand! See: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ght=3%2F4+race
Sorry, couldn't resist!!

Im finally going to make the jump for the H/C within the next few weeks.
What does everyone recommend for a daily driver (only in the summer).
I am most likely going 2 buy used, so what cam/heads should i be on the look out for??? btw its an automatic/stock stall at the moment.

Time marches on, anyone see my 2112 8 track or Dark side of the Moon album?

As mentioned earlier, the right combo is what it’s all about. You can get a good 22x cam tuned for a decent ride that’ll give you plenty of power. Those bazooka’s are indeed just a peeing contest most of the time.
*zip*
What would you say to a 246/252 112 daily driver that idles smooth at 900 rpm and has the power and tune down low to seem stock or smoke them loose at 50 if you want? Oh, but it’s a 412. Sorry guys, had to pull it out and show ya. lol -Check the attached dyno, it’s not a big mountain to climb.

I think I am going to buck conventional wisdom when I get a cam ground for me. Comp Extreme high lift 226°/.570" on the intake and 230°/.573" on the exhaust. Probably go on a 109° LSA +0° (109° ICL). That way I think I can just shim my LS6 springs .050" and be good.
Will that work? Might hit 400 hp and tq with 64cc home ported heads, 2.02/1.575 valves and a .040" gasket.
I know it's a slow ramp cam, but I like the choppy idle and ability to hopefully use LS6 springs.

i like smaller cams too (thats why i went custom), and i like hearing about guys with smaller cams keeping up with, or beating guys with larger cams.
i need to get tuned and then i'll have some dyno and track times to post up.

It's not a track car at all as I have 19" wheels, slammed suspension and even more weight in the car via sound deadening.
I think one of the issues with these big cams these days is dynamic compression ratio. With the huge amounts of duration, the static compression stays the same, but the dynamic compression takes a dump, hurting low end torque. Now you make torque peak at 5200-5400.
Look at Patrick G's setup. He did it right. He bumped up the compression with the heads being milled, but also tightened up the quench with the thinner head gasket and had pistons with valve releifs installed. Again, it's a sum of all the parts working together, not just a magic camshaft.

I was happy with my 234/242 .598 .610 112+4 for my first cam(yes, stock 3.42's). Was a great DD, but then again I had an awesome tune($250 got me a few hours of data logging/drive ability tuning and a WOT tune). Car went 12.1 @ 117 with a 2.0 '60, so I can't honestly say thats the norm for all big cammed cars. I wouldn't recommend anything larger than an X3 on a 112 to ANYONE running stock gears, heads or stock cubes period and even then the X3 might still be a little too much for some. I had an AZPS03 and I wasn't a big fan of that cam(good sized cam) my limit was the X3. Some people just like that endless pull and others like the aggressive low/midrange cars. My favorite cam of all times is the 221/221 B1 cam. Have seen many 380/380 numbers and a few 390/390's as well.
