Default Help me pick a cam for my stroker.

I'm going 383 next spring. The car has JPR heads flowing 291 intake with Isky 295 springs and stock 2002 valves, LS6 intake, MACS, no cats. I want to set the rev limiter around 6700rpm. What would be a good cam to make this a daily driven weekend warrior?

I guess it depends on how much of a lope you're willing to put up with. If it were my setup, I'd be interested in trying a 234/234 112 LSA Comp XE-R. I know that Tony had an XE 232/232 Comp in his all-bore 382. Do you know how much lift the Isky 295 springs are good for? I'm not familiar with them. Tuning is everything, and it will determine how well the car drives. Who will be doing the tuning?

I was planning on doing the tuning myself. I'm not sure how much lift the 295s will handle but I was thinking of keeping lift to around .560 - .570

XE-R lift in that duration be around .600

6700 seems a bit high from a stroker. I thought the stroker strategy was to focus on a strong midrange and shift around 6400. Tony's 232 XE would probably meet your needs. Maybe TR would do a 230/230 using their ramps which would meet your lift specs.

SLAMMED:

Your going with a fairly aggressive cam their my friend for your A4. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> You think you will be able to get that 110lsa to idle and have any street manners? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I'm going with MTI most aggressive S1, 244/244, .612 lift and 112lsa on my MTI 427 Ironblock, and am thinking of running a 114 lsa to make it a bit more streetable thru our A4s with large stalls on our C5s.

What do you think?

Look at SIG. It drives like a stocker!! But. way more power <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I got 450 rwhp with 11.6 A/F ratio. I could see about 10 rwhp more with a 12.5 A/F ratio.

here's what I've managed with my 382 stroker

224/224 114lsa .539 lift 448rwhp 442 rwtq. drives and idles almost like stock. a nice sleeper.

236/232 112lsa .602 .575 456rwhp 435rwtq UNTUNED. possibly running out of fuel too. nice lope, but still a good dd. no idling problems and way more intimidating.

StevieZ,

As for the cam, I would talk with JPR and see what Joe suggests. The cam selection can be influenced by the way the valve job is done which helps determine flow characteristics. Also depending on what lift the heads stall at might have a little influcene on cam selection. The 236/232 sounds like a pretty good starting point to me.

With the stroker, are you keeping the stock 2002 valves? Couldn't a little more be gained with aftermarket valves? Are these stock LS6 2002 valves?

Are the Isky springs duals?

I would favor dual springs since your already spending the $$$ for the stroker.

I'm thinking of going with a 230/230 or 232/232 XE-R .575 with a 112LSA. What do you guys think?
