People use the dyno figures we post to compare our cars to one another whether we like it or not. Yes it should be a dyno tool that is used to measure our own cars, but that isn't life.
I'm curious to see the discrepancies in how people dyno. After a few people gave the me the impression that people are posting uncorrected dyno #'s, I want to know whether or not people are using corrected #'s, and if so, whether its STD or SAE.
I'd also like to know if people are posting their dyno #'s in street trim (i.e. full exhaust, or how they drive it on a daily basis), or in track trim (short belt mods, open headers, header extentions, etc...)
Lastly, I want to know what type of dyno people are using, and if they prefer certain dynos.
My goal is to show people you can't compare dyno figures from one car to the next with complete accuracy due to all these variances.

I'm surprised at how much peoples answers are agreeing.

your question about which dyno shop you go to ought to be re-written for some of us. I go to the dyno shop that is near me (still 2 hrs away) weather it dynos high or low I don't know, and really don't care.

What makes you think tha you have to calibrate the dyno after its initial setup?
As far as other #s go, I could care less. I just use it as a tuning tool, and to go off what I did the time before. Comparing, figuring out shift points, finding peak HP and TQ.

At one point, I dyno'd my car on 3 seperate occaisions over the period of 6 months, no different mods done to the car on those 3 times, and every single time the SAE correction came out to 405rwhp. The uncorrected numbers were different on every day, but the SAE correction worked flawlessly as far as I can tell.

As far as Dynojets are concerned, If everything is done properly, they should be extreemly close. Why other dynos are higher is unknown, but In Dallas when I got my car put back together it made 418/403. Then in Indiana- 915 miles away, 2 months later, everything being the same it made 417/408. Considering the situation, not bad at all.

I expected much more variance. 10-15% of the people who responded do not use SAE correction methods, something to consider. Also 10% dyno using dyno tricks or in full track trim even if its their daily driver.
It seems that most people don't prefer to go to a shop that puts out higher hp numbers, they use SAE correction methods, and dyno in street trim if a daily driver, and track trim if a track only car.

Good poll, verbs.
However on questions such as these:
"Are the dyno figures you post from a shop notorious for higher #s than others?"
I wasn't sure what to say because I have no clue... i just dyno (so long as its a DynoJet and has a WideBand) whever is cheapest and then usually stay at that dyno.

Where I live there is clearly one dyno notorious for putting down better numbers than the rest.

Looks like the vast majority of LS1techers report SAE numbers and don't use tricks (ie dyno it how they drive it).

I have dyno'd 4 times at MTI. @ pulls on 2 separate occasions with different correction factors.
My corrected numbers ranged from 356 to 359. My actual numbers were between 373 and 377.
This means about 406 to 409 corrected crank HP (figuring about a roughly 50hp loss) which is right at what GM sez it should be...
Tire pressure was at 32 psi. Jayson also wouldn't pull the car cold. They made sure it was up to temp before making a pull, so I didn't get the advantage of a stone cold intake...
So I would say I am pretty confident with their dyno. I also have scanned copies of the dyno sheets if folks want to see them posted.
