I was doing a fluids check on my car today, everything was checking out fine until I got to the oil fill cap...
I've been running a heads/cam setup for a few months now...I really haven't beaten on the car that much, it was to the track 2 times...with about 10 runs total...
I noticed about 2 weeks ago that the coolant in the radiator was low, not extremely low, but low enough to where it was noticable, it was always to the top before....also the coolant catch dipstick shows a little coolant on the end when its cold, and it barely crosses the cold marker when its warm...
Now to the oil dipstick...I pull it out, looks like the normal oil, this was after it was sitting for about 30 mins...had the blackish/brown normal look to it....now I pull the oil filler cap off and looked at the underside of it....there was a sludge of oil/coolant mixed in there in a paste type of form...also combined with a lot of condensation...there was also some of this sludge on the filler neck...maybe enough total to fill a cap of a sprite bottle...
What do you think the problem is here....if it was a bottom end problem I'm sure the oil/coolant would show up on the dipstick, its not even close to looking like the "choclate milk" color....
Any ideas on this?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
I'm planning on throwing an ATI on my car in spring, and I don't want this problem getting in the way...

Slude = water in oil, which is pretty bad. I'd change the oil and see how long it takes to come back ASAP.

I've seen the yellowish stuff on the underside of a few caps of different cars.
Honestly Brian after you do a new mod you like it for a week and then post up a 'is my engine falling apart' thread like this... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I only post when something unusual starts happening....my car was 1 pint low of coolant in the radiator, and I found sludge under the oil cap...but the oil on the dipstick looks fine, and doesn't show any signs of coolant...
I'll still put the blower on, if it blows it blows..... <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Coolant level has been good for the past few days, I'm still getting a good amount of condensation under the cap when I do short trips...
How do I know if the PCV valve is bad? I took it out of the intake and looked at it, stuck a piece of rag inside, got a good amount of black on the rag....also the idle went up crazy when I tried unplugging it when the car was running...

I noticed this years ago when i 1st got the z and drove through the winter season, i wonder if its due from condensation.
Usually this stuff seems to appear more when driving on short trips in winter weather with no chance of really opening up. Once the car is warmed up, drive it in higher rpms.

This didn't sound serious until you mentioned the CHOCOLATE MILK! You know the difference between sludge and chocolate milk. You better get out the compression gauge. You can live with a little sludge (very little), but milk is 80% WATER!

Its more of the yellowish paste type of deal that these guys described...I assume thats the oil and water....probably water from condensation under the cap from short trips..
I've seen what the choclate milk looks like, I saw that my friends car was blowing out a lot of white smoke, so I pulled out the dipstick, and it was like choclate milk...
My dipstick, shows the normal color of oil, not any signs of water inside the crankcase...
