Cam chewed up, whats the cause
I pulled my MS3 cam out and 3 lobes that make contact with the lifters were chewed up. This cam only has 9k miles on it. The lifters for those lobes were not chewed up but had some discoloration. The chewed up sections were only about a 1/4" long and they weren't very wide. They were torward the edge of the lobe.

There is probably some metal shaving or chunks that made it ino the oil system somehow and got up to the cam lobes or the lobe itself was defective. Do not try to reuse that cam, get a new one.

My advice is send the cam back to TSP and see what they can do.
If it is a hardening core problem Comp cam (grinder) might replace with new one.

Called TSP, they told me to send it back to them and they'll forward it on to Comp for some testing. You would think if something got stuck between the lifter and the cam lobe that it would've chewed up the lifter.

the MSv3 i bought between christmas(04) & new years(05) is fucked up too. i didn't notice it when i took it out of my stock motor. it sat on the shelf for about a year. after some inspection from a few people i sent it back to comp earlier this year. they basically told me it was out of warranty, nothing wrong with the hardness of it, and to **** myself!
so i have a useless cam i paid $400 for. mine is not near as bad as the above pics though.

My opinion is just how I feel, I'm not telling anyone Comp is a bad company or that any of their cams are bad. I just happened to have a bad experience with a Comp cam and by the way it sounds their customer service isn't the greatest. I also don't have any evidence that there was a hardening issue.

Which springs did you put on the AFR's, I just need the part numbers. I have the installed heights for those heads so I should be able to tell you if the perssures were wrong.
As far as customer service goes as a dealer for Comp Cams I want to get to the bottom of this.
I buy and sell tons of Comp Cams parts and I don't want you guys to think no one cares when you spend cash and have this kind of stuff happen.
I will get on the phone with Comp and find out if there is a problem with these cams and get back to you.
