Default 430 rwhp

If anybody would help me out I would appreciate it. I am wanting to get 430-450(if not more) out of my 99 TA. I was just wondering how I can go about doing this(what mods should I do) No nitrous and no chargers. I would like to keep the stock heads as well. The things that I am going to do first are: x-pipe with a bassani dual in/out muffler, headers(probably hooker lts) and a lid. I am going to get a cam(not sure which one) but that will be bit later. I need some help so that I can get an idea of what I need to do to as far as money goes. Lastly, my car has 77k on it. Should I rebuild it before I tackle modifying it? I think this is probably a yes, but I haven't done anything to my car and am learning very slowly. I hope someone can help.

Thanks

I really don't think that you'll see the kind of power that you're looking for on stock LS1 heads, though you MAY have a shot with stock LS6 heads (which will still involve a head swap, though) if you run a big enough cam (IIRC, TAMU_z06 is running a FASTech-spec cam on stock LS6 heads and is making @430 in his '01 Z06).

Of course, the common stuff like headers, cat-back, lid, etc... will have to be done in addition to the cam. Don't forget 'puter tuning, as well.

If you're not willing to go to the LS6 heads, 430 on stock LS1 heads w/ out N2O or a huffer is a little unrealistic, IMO. 400 RWHP on stock LS1 heads with bolt-ons and a cam is MUCH more achievable if you pick the right cam.

Good luck.

430-450rwhp on stock heads?

Interesting. Weird choice, but I guess it could be done. Stroke it to 382 with a nasty cam and every bolt on and you could probably do it. I think some people have made 420rwhp with every trick and stock heads, but I'm not sure if those were stock LS1 or LS6 heads, and who knows how accurate that was. Stroker should add the difference though.

I think you'd be crazy to keep the stock heads though.

just curious, why keep the stock heads? There are so many companies, why not just buy s2 or 3 heads?
s2 heads+cam+bolt-on's = 430 rwhp easy

thanks for all of the input. I really appreciate it. Would it be a bit easier to reach the kind of horsepower that I am wanting by changing out the heads? I guess I should should probably contact a couple of shops that specialize in doing a head and cam install and see what I am looking at price wise. An ls6 intake is also in my plans. I am abit concerned of the mileage on my car still.. should I rebuild the bottom end? Again, thanks for all input.

Having a little trouble over here understanding how you could be willing to spend the money and time to pull the motor and freshen it but are unwilling to port the heads?

Just get a set of GTP stage 2s and a healthy cam and be done.

I don't have a problem getting rid of the stock heads. As I said, I am new. I am not real sure of the route to take.. that is why I ask. I have an overwhelming feeling that I should get some aftermarket heads. Anyway, I am just trying to get this stuff figured out so that I can plan.. to purchase the what I need. Again, thanks for all of the input. It has helped

It would be much safer to freshen up the bottom end, although it has been done. I would be worried the bottom end would let go with over 400 HP on it. And I think you would deffinatly need to do a set of stage2 heads for your quest.

I like my set-up! i`ve got good RWHP on N/A and a ton on spray. We tuned her safely with 23 degrees and she runs a little rich! Still got 414 with a A4,stall,12-bolt,3.73,and heavy 17x11 wheels. Sweet! Check my Sig out for everything. My cage will be in 2 weeks. Then I will have times to go with it

Spyder:

As set forth herein many times, you will definitely need to upgrade to a good breathing stage II heads and match aggressive cam to see 420rwhp. Go with a proven tuner and package, simliar to the one in the sig. set forth by BeardWs6 to get the goal you are after.

If $ is not a big problem for you, you may as well refreshen the bottom end and even look into putting arp rod bolts, as you will really have piece of mind about your bottom end holding up after extreme abuse for thousands of more miles.

Best of luck,
