Default push rod length

I just installed a new cam in my camaro, there is about 1/8 inch play between the rockers and valve springs after everything was torqued. Do i need longer push rods? I was told stock length pushrods would be fine but i know this cant be right.

from what i understand its all about the base circle. if its smaller than the stock base circle then if im understanding all this right it would require longer rods. im in the same boat as you so im hoping someone who knows for sure chimes in.

yes, you need longer p-rods. not not sure how longer p-rods from 0 lash to get correct preload on lifters but, I'm sure some one can help on this. take a reading on gap with feeler gage. use those numbers plus whatever reading for correct lifter pre-load. or just buy a measuring p-rod.

nope!! dont know the cam base lobe measurements. if you have the cam measure the V.3 base lopes and compare to stock cam base lobes. if V.3 is smaller add that to stock length p-rods (7.400) if bigger then subtract. I believe V.3 will be smaller though. just check it...

EDIT: just did some research stock camshaft lobe base circle radius for-

inch (mm)
97-04 LS1 0.776 (19.7)
01 LS6 0.760 (19.3)
02 and up LS6 0.748 (19.0)

specs from the book "How to Build High-Perfromance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s".

What cam did you take out? I assume it was ok before the new cam. You need to compare the base circles of the 2 cams to see if and what the difference is for starters.
