MS4 Guys
Making power has nothing to do with it, guys. That doesn't help figure out whether to flycut or not. And getting random opinions from guys who didn't measure clearance won't help either. Just measure, and talk to those who have measured. Or just look at the cam specs and know that there's absolutely no reason to do all this work to your car and then skimp out on safety just to smack the valves.

the only problem with that is I plan on installing myself and I'm not too sure about being able to cut myself. The only shop I asked about it said they won't do it with the engine in the car. I'm not made of money here.
You should want independent input. Not input from someone whose wallet depends on what they say. No offense, 'cause they're obviously great guys. It's just IMPOSSIBLE for humans to be neutral when their livelihood depends upon it.
Flycutting was simple and cheap. Use and old head. Tool was about $150. Much cheaper than a rebuild when you smack the valves off the pistons.

Why? Most of the guys I read about using this cam aren't spinning their motors high enough to use the cam's entire powerband. So of course they aren't having problems with their little anemic 6200 or 6400 rev limiters.

Read this whole thread... The owner of TSP chimed in to let everyone know the p/V clearances are close but will be fine..
If you have milled heads then YES YOU WILL HAVE CLEARANCE ISSUES...
You can call TSP all you want, they will say it works..
I personally have the ms4 on 110 lsa. Its made many WOT passes and ive had zero issues thus far. I want to spray this cam so I will be flycutting. When I pop these heads off I will see if the cam has eyebrowed the pistons or not.
The MS4 does not require flycutting on stock heads, however flycutting is just extra insurance..
I plan on milling my stock 98 heads .033, notching the pistons with a .085 relief and runing a cometic .040 head gasket.

The stg 1 Ls6 heads with the MS4 cam will fit due to the heads using stock valve size. There is no need to flycut, we designed the cam to fit with stock valves for the many people that want a healthy cam only set up. We have done quite a few of these set ups and seen great results. Please feel free to send me a PM or give us a call if you have any questions.

Nice. What is the typical clearance with stock heads and stock valves? "Fit" and "Fit with accepted safe clearance" seem to be where we're having an issue. If you don't care, JohnJanz, please clear this up for us so that everyone can drop the argument.
And those who keep saying you have it and it "fits", tell us what the clearance was. You can't say it safely fits if you didn't measure. Plain and simple.

I have the first zo6 corvette that texas speed has put the ms4 , stage one heads on. it is my every day driver and i drive the **** out of my car never have had any problems with clearence. red lines at 6800 and ive slamed the limiter many many times, valves have yet to hit. with ms4 prc stage 1 heads texas speed headers and x pipe underdrive pully intake and borla exhaust i made 460 rwhp and 416 tq. thats the cam i would go with if i were you. like i said drive my car hard every day and have never had the valves hit without fly cutting.
if you're that worried about it, put some putty on the pistons, and torque the heads down and check it yourself. Measure the thickness.
There's no set tool for "fly cutting" this. It's done in a machine shop, with the engine out, pistons off the rods.

I will be getting my ms4 tomorrow and will be installing around mid may. I am putting the cam in and hauling it down to vengeance racing and they are gonna flycut my pistons for me. They also said they can do it with the motor in the car. I just believe with a cam this size, there is no since in risking your motor. Its costing me around 450 (heads already off the car for them). If you ask me, thats real cheap insurance.

And use clay, not putty.
