Default 2002 Z06 heads and cam worth it on a 98?

i have a local guy selling his heads, cam from his 02 Z06 for $500. I have a stock 98Z auto. Will this head swap be worth it from my 853 heads? i would get a small 224 cam along with the heads and just sell the cam?

is this a cheap proven setup or not worth it?

There are a bunch of factors that would make it worth it or not, but all-in-all that could be a good setup. Those LS6 heads and a 224/224 sized cam has good potential.

car never sees track, I just want some more kick in the nuts when I hammer the car on the highway, merge ramps and some fun with imports on the streets.

used heads=$500-50-75 bucks for selling the cam
used 224 cam=250
pushrods=100
springs=125
gaskets etc=120

so for around 1k I can have a decent setup for a DD. Or am I wasting my time with the Z06 heads?

that doesn't sound like too bad of a deal depending on the mileage of the LS6 heads/cam. since it sounds like you pretty much use your car for cruising around, MS4 would be about the worst decision, but it appears as you have already researched a bit with leaving your options with 243 heads and either a 224 or LS6 cam.

Depending on mileage again, I'd just throw in the LS6 cam with the heads and be done with it. You will make power all over the place and definitely have a quick car with great driving manners

Yeah boosted has a good point. the set up you r thinkn about would be alright you would see moderat gains from that set up. But speaking from experience once yo get it back and get used to the power the 224 and zo6 heads gave you i can almost garuntee you that you will want more power sooner or later. i would save a little extra money and go with bigger heads and cam

Then it would be a dog down low. It would need a stall converter.

Will the Z06 heads and cam bolt right up to a 98 block? will the accesory brackets fit etc? I know the alternator on the corvettes are in a different place than the F bodys. It everthing bolts on without having to hack stuff I might do this over the summer. Dont have $$ now for aftermarket heads, I only put on 2-3k on the car in a year. I have a Caddy for a DD and a suv for the winter. This is just a weekend cruiser and DD if the weather is nice only. I drove a 02 Z06 and loved the power and street manners it had.

Those would be their bare heads. They sell them for $395 + shipping.

A 224 cam and those heads would be a great set up.
