How recent is the clutch? Does it do it when its warmed up? Or mostly when its cold?

Some of the newer Ram HD clutches have been making that exact noise you are describing. Some days, mine is pretty bad, others its not. Also depends how hard I have been on the clutch lately.

If the noise increases as it warms up it is probably a spun connecting rod bearing, I am currently working on one with the same problem as you are describing, crank the car and unhook the coil packs one at a time, listen for the noise, if it quits then that is the problem cylinder. The metal in the oil is more then likely bearing material.

i would say spun bearing, had the same sound coming from my buddies z28. turned out it was 3,4 that spun the bearing.
