Default Cam change question

I'm new to the LSx engine and have a question.

How do I remove the lifters without pulling the head? It really looks like there is no other way. Am I missing something.

There is no way to remove the lifters without pulling the heads. You could pull the camshaft, then let the lifters drop down into the oilpan, but you'd still have to pull the head to put them back in.

No, you're not missing anything.
Heads have to come off.

Ive been down that road twice already... Not a ton of fun. Did you kill your stock lifters? If not, consider holding off until youre ready to do some head work. The stock lifters are fairly decent, IMO.

CRAP. I was affraid of that. What a lame design. I'm in the middle of a LS1 swap into my 94 Z28 and it will never be easier then it is now with the engine out of the car.

Well......Looks like the heads are getting ported.

Yep, for me it's like this... if I have to replace the lifters, there is NO WAY I'm putting stock heads back on, something better has to, might as well since the stock ****'s off. If I am replacing my heads out of my own volition, then while they're off I might as well replace the lifters, even if they're good. I wouldn't do one without changing the other, unnecessary work down the road IMO if you do one at a time. At least that's my take from a compulsive spender's point of view

Not hard at all with heads off the car. Mill them at the very least, even if head work isnt feasible right now. At least the GM MLS gaskets are pretty cheap.

Looking into porting the heads right now. If I've gotta pull them, there is no way they are going back on stock.

The wife is gonna be pissed.
