Hello all. I am definitely going to go with a mild cam in my car for drivablity. I want the car to start up like stock, idle somewhat like stock, and have good tq for daily driving. I dont take the car to the track much but I do plan on some track days, both drag and road america.
I'm going to be buying a cam tomarrow and I'm still undecided on what to get. At the same time I install the cam, I will also do ls6 intake, ported TB, LT headers with a bullet in the I pipe and electric cutout in my borla for a quieter exhaust, and a 25% crank pulley. Stock heads.
The biggest cam I want to go with is a TR 224 114.
My question is this, would it be worth it for me to go with a TR 220 114 or the comp cam 212 - 218 558,563 @115 for better street manners.
Anybody have feedback about the comp 212 - 218 558,563 @115?
Thanks, Scott

If you put in a cam that small, you'll regret wasting your money. Go 224 or bigger. Pay attention and notice what most everyone has noticed: tons of guys say "224 cam is the best cam ever" then they usually follow that with "I used to have one". Which means it's really not that great or they'd still have it.
My previous cam was a 224, and after a couple of months I was pretty aggravated that I spent the money on a cam swap but still was leaving so much power untapped.

I get your point, but I need a great daliy driver. I not looking for every last h.p. on a dyno sheet. I dont street race or hardly ever drag race so having the biggest and best cam is not for me. Right now I start my car, lets the revs drop to 1k, am i'm off. I don't want to deal with a surging idle, rough idle, bad street manners, and dealing with valve springs.

If a Tr224 is as high as youll go,then go for it.Im H/C/I in a daily driver(A4).My cam is a tr224/112.I may swap it out now for something alittle bigger now that I plan on buying a "Work" car and my formula will be a toy.The tr224 isa great DD cam in my eyes and dont have to spin it high to make power.when i was just cammed with an ls6 intake i put down 350rwh,now with tsp 5.3 heads and ported fast it puts down 417rwhp 407rwt.I like the tourque from this cam thats why I'm not sure if i wan t to take it oout.I may just spray first

I like mine, Pat G custom. 224/226 111+3, idle clip in sig. 374rwhp/361rwtq. I bought it with plans of milled heads and thinner HG later down the road. Drives close to stock, pulls hard, sounds good, and is what I need for a daily driver. I was actually THIS close to buying the TR224 at first, then decided might as well get custom.
