Default spongy caddy lifters??

I'm putting my motor together and I'm using the caddy lifters. With my rockers at 0 lash I can lift the rocker up a good 1/4" or 3/8". If I push down on them with the pushrod they compress alot. Is this normal? They call for .060 preload correct?

I noticed the same thing and I had soaked them in oil for like 3 months. I'm using the Harland Sharp rebuilds, and with 7.35 PR's I got about 1 3/8 turns, which I think is a little less than .060. When I initially cranked up the engine and the lifters got pumped up they were quieter than my old 850's with a little smaller cam. Very happy with them.

How many turns on the stock rocker bolts equal how much preload. After measuring I cam up with a 7.41 pushrod length. I put a stock 7.4 in and only got a half turn of preload.

1/2 turn is borderline but OK

I always figure .040" per turn, with 3/4 turn the very minimum. To me about 1 turn is where I'd like to be . I think stock is like 1 3/4 to 2 turns.

I got 3/4 of a turn when my torque wrench started to click. I have the Cadillac lifters, 7.425 pushrods and Yella Terras (shims were used).

So a longer set of pushrods should work better. Maybe 7.425???

Has anyone done high RPM testing with these yet? I would like to know some real world number.
Oh yeah, the spongy feel has no performance difference. It is not going to hurt anything. Just means the lifters are able to bleed down when there is no pressure. No big deal, as long as you don't lose oil pressure when running, but by that time, the game is over anyway!!!

I have spun them to 7,500 with no issues at all. The dyno sheet bairly fell off from 6,700-7,500 and most of that was due to the cam profile more then the lifters.

Can you guys explain what you mean by how much you turn the rocker bolt to preload? I'm assuming this is the "correct" way to do it, instead of just torquing the rocker bolts to 22 ft./lbs?? How exactly do you do it though? Sorry if its a dumb question...

Stock rockers are non adjustable, you can only trq them to 22ft/lbs and that is it.
Pushrod length determines amount of preload
