Default LQ4 6.0 swap using LS1 parts

We decided we are not going to rebuild my buddies LS1, it just deveopled a rod knock. Anyway, I have a guy with an 01 LQ4 6.0 out of a Silverado, 70k on it, COMPLETE motor with harness and everything. We want to use the shortblock, but not heads, we want to keep the LS1 heads and intake, will they work directly?

I have heard bits and pieces the accesories having issues bolting up, any truth?

Basically want to strip that LQ4 down to short block and put my buddies LS1 components on it, can this be done with ease or is this a difficult swap?

Any input much appreciated!

It may not work, some of the earlier LQ4 had longer cranks, and these earlier engines also had cast iron heads instead of the aluminum 317 heads.

Checked out your vids bad truck.
Do the blocks with the longer cranks have different casting number's? Did the later model lq4's have aluminum heads?

AFAIK only the 1999-2000 LQ4's had the longer crank snouts, which were intended to bolt directly to a 4L80e and never to a 4L60e. In 2001 GM shortened the snout so it would work with the -60e, and used a spacer for the -80e applications. There is a comparison picture of both snouts somewhere on PT.NET (too lazy to look for it now ).

The intake should be OK, but I'm not sure about the heads as the 6.0 has a larger bore. Maybe someone else knows?

Heads will work fine on the larger bore, although you need to use gaskets sized for the larger bore diameter. Using the LQ4 directly w/o any changes to the heads, you'll also lose some compression compared to the LS1 due to the dish in the piston.

After 2000 all LQ4 blocks cam with the 317 cast aluminum heads.

Yea I know you need a spacer with a 2001+ block for the 80e, but I wasn't sure what was requierd for the 99-2000 to mount to a 60.....

Awesome, with the increae of displacement, will he need tuning?

Also, what is the best way to get the engine out? Dropping K member or lifting it?

Assuming that you really have the 317 heads, I'd just keep them and maybe have them decked .020".

no they wont, you will have to drill and tap a hole for the alternator bracket. if it was me i would leave the stock heads on it, as they are better. hmmm we also had to change the oil pressure sensor(as our 04 lq4 had a different plug) we also bolted on a ls6 intake with no problems. you know you will have to use the f body pan and pick up tube, and when i did my buddies, i went ahead with the Katech rod bolts just for good measure! the ls1 flywheel worked fine for us also... so anything else?
